Kia ora ra te whanau,
We currently have 16 players for our Varsity Taiohi 6th grade seven a’side” ripper (non-tackle) team. At this stage we will leave it as one large squad to cater for any players whom may drop away during the season. However, if we get a few more players register online this week we can look at forming 2 teams. We require a coach & a manager for this team. Please contact me if you can help. I anticipate the first game to be on Saturday 8th May after the school holidays (to be confirmed). We will have a team training/meet & greet the Thursday prior to the first game. At this training I will hand out players’ jerseys, shorts, mouth-guards etc. I will send out another update during the school holidays. Feel free to contact me should you have any questions beforehand.
Ngā mihi,
Billy

I will contact the families of all registered Varsity Taiohi players in a couple weeks time to provide an update prior to the season starting in early May.

Kia ora,
Thank you to those who attended yesterday’s club weigh-in. For those who couldn’t make it there is a “general” weigh-in for all clubs at the FMG stadium (gate 2) 530 – 630pm March 17th. Myself or Jimmy Heta will be there. Please register online prior. Looking at yesterday’s weigh-in numbers this year we anticipate having teams in the Under 6’s/7’s. I will contact the families of all registered Varsity Taiohi players in a few weeks time to provide an update prior to the season starting in early May.

Kia Ora whānau
For our families who still wish to have their tamariki play this season, I have made some enquires with our neighbours (Marist)

Marist are a little light on 10th grade players,
2 x really competitive A division teams with only 12 in each team.

However there is nothing stopping our families going further afield if they wish to. I haven’t made any enquires with other clubs, however if you would like me to find out let me know as I am more than happy to.

Our wish is that our families do return back to us next year as we look ahead to 2021.

Ngā mihi whānau

Kia ora Varsity Taiohi whanau,
Regrettably we have withdrawn all Varsity Taiohi junior rugby teams from this season’s competition due to a number of families in the past week withdrawing their children due to covid concerns, which is fully understandable. As a committee we have also taken into consideration the onerous requirements around crowd contact tracing, hygiene & social distancing, in a season which is likely to be shortened into a format during school term 3. We apologize for any disappointment & inconvenience this decision may cause. Can those whom have paid their subs please let me know their bank account number for a refund. Please contact me should you have any questions.
Ngā mihi nui,

Kia ora Varsity Taiohi whanau,
Yesterday the government announced that from this Friday gatherings can be up to 100, therefore paving the way for the return of junior rugby, which at a guess could be by late June. It is inevitable that crowd contact tracing, hygiene & social distancing measures will need to be followed. We await instructions from the Waikato Central Junior Rugby union. I will be in touch the moment we hear from them. In the meantime can you please let me know by next Monday 1st June via email or text if your child will NOT be playing this season due to your ongoing Covid-19 concerns. This will assist us with managing team numbers. If I don’t hear from you we will assume that your child is still playing rugby this season. Thank you for your ongoing patience.

Kia ora Varsity Taiohi whanau,
Hope all is well in your bubbles. Waikato Central Junior Rugby union are hoping first games will be on Saturday 6th June. However, this is uncertain until the government decides if or when contact sport will resume. If it does I would expect this to possibly happen once we are at Covid-19 level 2. I will be in touch again over the next few weeks. In the meantime as we still need more players in the 9 – 13 age groups please encourage your friends & whanau to register online asap.

Kia ora Varsity Taiohi whanau,
Waikato Central junior rugby games are due to start on Saturday 2nd May after the upcoming school holidays. However with the Covid-19 this could be delayed. I will be in touch over the next couple weeks to advise on how we will proceed. This will include notification of a date/time/venue for those players not yet weighed in. We still need more players in the 9 – 13 age groups, so please encourage your friends & whanau to register online asap. If you are interested in being a coach or manager this season please let me know.
