Around 100 people joined the Mining Information Session in Westport yesterday to learn more about careers and opportunities in the sector.

West Coasters interested in learning more about careers in the mining industry gathered at the NBS Theatre in Westport yesterday for a Mining Information Session hosted by Development West Coast (DWC) and the Ministry of Social Development (MSD).

Congrats to DWC scholarship recipient Niko Barnett on winning the Daphne Lee Prize in Geology at the University of Otago. A well-deserved achievement, and a pretty impressive rock hammer to go with it!

Development West Coast (DWC) scholarship recipient Niko Barnett has been recognised for his academic success, receiving the Daphne Lee Prize in Geology at the University of Otago.

DWC has approved a final extension of support for the Westport–Wellington air service, keeping this important link in place through to 24 August 2026 while Government considers longer-term options.

Development West Coast (DWC) has approved an extension of its support package for the Westport–Wellington air service, helping maintain flights while Central Government continues to consider longer-term support options for essential regional air routes.
