The Design Windows West Coast Sports Awards The West Coast Sports Awards are an opportunity to celebrate excellence in our region. This creates a great marketing opportunity for potential sponsors.

These prestigious awards recognise the outstanding contributions of our sportspeople, serving as a beacon of inspiration for others to aspire to and achieve greatness. Purpose:

The West Coast Sports Awards Trust (the trust), is a registered charitable organisation. The purpose of the trust is to run the annual West Coast Sports Awards which recognise excellence in sports achievement by West Coast

sportsmen, sportswomen, teams and administrators. Awards Dinner

The Annual awards dinner is an opportunity for current and former sports people from throughout the West Coast to meet and recognise the achievements of their peers. It is also an opportunity for local businesses to interact and many choose to use the dinner to recognise their clients or staff. Held in October or November of each year, the dinner has been fortunate to have attracted speakers and MC's of a very high quality. Of significant value to the trust has been the ability to attract people who are willing to waive their usual appearance fee. Without support of that type it would not be possible to run the event at a cost which would be sustainable.

Which means we have our Inaugural 2026 Wild West Backyard Ultra winner - Jason Sweney 🙌🏻

Congratulations Jason - executed perfectly & very well-deserved. Epic to have a Hokitika local take away the win on year 1 of the Wild West! 🌞

Jason bettered his PB by 1 lap, setting a new mark of 39, both our male and female winners set PBs in winning our course, as did plenty of other athletes at all levels of the race.

Jason has taken away an entry into next year, an epic trophy with his name engraved and $1,000 💸

We can’t wait to see you back next year to defend your title Jason! For now - put those feet up 👏
