A beautiful morning greeted both teams, with perfect conditions setting the stage for what would become an entertaining contest.
FAHS started brightly and wasted little time making their mark.
From an early midfield set piece, the boys executed a well-worked move that created space out wide allowing Noah to dive over in the corner and give FAHS an early 5-0 lead. PNBHS responded immediately capitalising on some missed defensive alignments to score their first try of the match. The successful conversion pushed them ahead 7-5 and reminded our boys that there would be no easy moments in this contest.
The game soon settled into a rhythm, with both sides producing some exciting passages of play. While our ex*****on wasn’t quite at the standard, we’ve come to expect the boys enjoyed a healthy share of possession and territory. Unfortunately, several promising opportunities went begging as we struggled to finish off our good work. As the first half approached the 25-minute mark, FAHS finally began to string together multiple phases and build pressure. The reward came through Zac, who powered his way over for a deserved five-pointer. Austin added the extras to extend our lead.
However, PNBHS weren’t finished. Around the 30-minute mark, a loose pass out wide was intercepted, allowing them to level the scores once again. Following the restart, our boys found themselves under immense pressure, defending bravely inside their own red zone with less than a minute remaining before halftime. After a fiercely contested opening period, the teams headed to the sheds locked together at 12-12.
The second half could not have started any better for FAHS. Straight from a midfield scrum, the boys executed a superb set-piece move that resulted in a brilliant try under the posts. The momentum continued after the kick off, with strong ball retention and disciplined phase play leading to another well-earned try, converted by Austin. With 18 minutes remaining, another clinical set-piece play saw Pushkar finish in the corner, stretching the lead to 31-12. The opposition began to show signs of frustration and looked determined to fight their way back into the game, but FAHS had other ideas.
The boys continued to pin PNBHS deep inside their own territory and maintained relentless pressure. Rolling up their sleeves once again, Zac crossed for his second try of the afternoon, while Austin slotted another excellent sideline conversion. With 12 minutes left on the clock, the forwards laid a strong platform and Mono crashed over beneath the posts to add his name to the scoresheet. Growing in confidence with every minute, the boys began to play with real freedom and enjoyment.
Some slick handling from the backs created space for Austin, who finished brilliantly in the corner with six minutes remaining. As the final whistle approached, Mono grabbed his second try of the match, once again converted from the sideline by Austin to cap off an outstanding kicking display. There was still time for one final attack, with the boys earning one last opportunity with ball in hand. Unfortunately, they couldn’t quite hold onto possession, bringing an end to an impressive performance. What had been a tightly contested battle at halftime turned into a dominant second-half display, with FAHS running away convincing 57-12 winners.
