THE FINAL PUSH: Leave Nothing on the Course! 🇳🇿⛳️
We have officially reached the final round of the regular Pennants season. For our teams, the mission is simple: leave absolutely everything out on the fairways this Saturday!
No bullet points needed here—let's break down the massive matchups across the grades.
Tall Poppy D Grade: Simple Maths for a Finals Berth 🏠
The equation for our D Grade side is as simple as it gets: win at home against Rivercity, and the lads are officially off to Foxton to play in the Finals. To ensure they get the job done, we have named our strongest possible lineup. James Humphrey makes his welcome return to the order at number two, right behind our in-form number one, Brad Atkin. Brad is out to continue his scorching hot streak and has shown the ability to completely knock off anyone who stands in his way.
Fresh off competing in Division 3 at the King's Birthday tournament, the "good cops" of the team—Iain "2 iis" McAlpine and Ali Leamy—will be providing plenty of positivity out on the track at positions three and four. Meanwhile, performing the "bad cop" routine right behind them will be our seasoned pros, Scott Worsley and Paul Gavegan, ready to grind out the crucial middle-order points. Get down and support the lads for this must-win clash!
Measured Livestock C Grade: Chasing the Perfect 10/10 🐄
Our dominant C Grade side looks to continue their white-hot form and cap off a flawless regular season, hunting for a perfect 10-for-10 record when they host Palmerston North. We welcome back our talisman, Jeremy Turner, at the very top of the list, reforming his formidable partnership with the unbeaten Lachlan Scott. There is simply no better three-and-four punch in the entire C Grade competition than Tawio Makene and Josh Logan—mighty solid performers who every other club wishes they had playing at the top of their own orders. To close out the lineup, the wizard Kyle Russell will look to keep rubbing his match-play magic off on youngster Madden Chittenden, giving us unmatched depth at five and six.
Taonui Groundspreading A Grade: Ending on a High Note 🚜
Our A Grade side is at home and looking to show Foxton exactly what they are worth in this final fixture. In a massive boost, the squad welcomes back its captain, Ryan Rooney, to the number one spot, and the word around the clubhouse is to tip him for a massive performance. There is serious form sitting right behind him at three and four, with Seb Baker and Ethan Ward both striking the ball beautifully over the King's Birthday weekend. Rounding out the team is the steely combination of Justin Rasmussen and Roddy McCabe; they have been one of the top-performing pairings in the entire competition this season and are primed for a big day on the home track.
E Grade: The Road Trip to Taihape 🏔️
The E Grade wraps up their campaign with a big road trip to Taihape, looking to secure a massive away upset to finish the year. Youngster Xander Keenam put in a strong performance over King's Birthday, which should have him absolutely primed for a win at number one, while Jack Walker is locked in to finish his season strongly at two.
Taihape better watch out for Adrian McCabe at number three, who will be out there terrorising the par 3s while still buzzing from hitting his first-ever hole-in-one over the weekend! Adding some massive firepower to the middle order is a surprise call-up for the big-hitting Fuzz Statham, making his highly anticipated first appearance of the season at number four. They might not be birth brothers, but the FGC brothers—Sam and Ben Neilson—will be anchoring the tail at five and six, ready to bring the team home in style.
A massive thank you to our incredible sponsors: Taonui Groundspreading, Measured Livestock, and Tall Poppy Real Estate.
Good luck to everyone wearing the badge this weekend—let's bring home those victories for the Green! 🦅
