Edendale Rugby Club

Congratulations to our 2027 senior coaching group for the Ack Soper Shield Competition.

Matt Medley pictured centre a passionate rugby man who wore his heart on his sleeve for the Magpies will be the Head coach and his assistants on left Shaun Davers and on right Ryan Mckinnel make up this trio looking to continue Edendale’s competitive presence in the grade.

Matt’s first senior season was 1997 as a rangy winger who moulded over time into one of the competitions best flankers/lock and leaders. Captaincy was a highlight to Matt with a notable high being the skipper of the 2012 winning division one side.

10 years out of the senior set up with the last game he played being the 2017 final where he bowed out on top he has given a lot back to Menzies rugby at different levels.

Shaun a man who surely played well over 200 games for the Magpies unfortunately retired just before caps started being recognised as they are today. He played 9 and 10 for well over 10 seasons for Edendale and gave back to the game after this through coaching the Edendale juniors and teams through out the Menzies college, another string to his bow over the years is being a referee throughout different grades.

Ryan played over 10 seasons for the Mataura club mainly at fullback and spent some time in the mid field. All 4 of his children have gone through the Edendale set up with some still currently playing. Ryan started coaching 11 years ago with the junior sides and then went into secondary school level. He is eager for the senior rugby challenge and can’t wait to be apart of the 2027 group.

We wish you men all the best for your upcoming roll and good luck over the off season assembling your squad for the 2027 Ack Soper Competition.

Tomorrow we’re HOME! 🙌
After a couple of weeks on the road, we finally get to welcome everyone back to Ladies Walk for our first home game of the season — and we are absolutely buzzing! 💙💛
We’ve got a strong squad ready for the challenge, and there’s plenty of experience in the ranks.
Last week we celebrated Blair Forsyth reaching the incredible 100-cap milestone. 👏👏
But this weekend… we go BIG. 💥
👑 THE LEGEND THAT IS JASON McKIE MAKES HIS 200TH CAP FOR THE CLUB! 👑
200 caps. That’s a serious amount of rugby, commitment, blood, sweat, probably a few questionable decisions… and we wouldn’t have it any other way! 😂🏉
The pack is absolutely stacked with experience and will be gunning to get another win under their belts. 💪
And it’s not all about what happens on the pitch…
🍻 We’re also delighted to welcome some of our past players into hospitality!
A chance to relive the glory days, share a few stories, pass on some hard-earned wisdom… and, naturally, prop the bar up for old time’s sake! 😂
📍 Ladies Walk
🕑 KO – 2PM
Come along, get behind the boys, make some noise and enjoy what promises to be a proper club day! 🙌🏉🍻
We’d absolutely love to see you all on the sidelines.
Let’s make it a day to remember — and give Jason the 200th-cap celebration he deserves! 💙
Huge thanks, as always, to all our fantastic sponsors. 🙏
We genuinely couldn’t do it without you.
