Good day out at Mataura today seen the Magpies earn the 5 points against Albion.
A dominant first 40 minutes seen Edendale get out to a 41-0 lead with some tries that the lads can be proud of.

Credit to Albion they scored first in the second half and had some possession of their own for a good period of time but the Edendale side capitalised in the last 10 mins with Peyton Dickson earning his first hat trick for Edendale in a Man of the Match performance.

The whole team played well today and are building nicely will now look forward to 2 big trainings again this week to take on the Western Riverton side who will be a force on their Club day.

Thanks to Mataura club for hosting the match and putting on a simply sensational feed for all 4 teams and supporters to enjoy.

Good luck to the Magpies who will play their round 9 fixture at Mataura. Get down and support the lads as we are also celebrating Eruera’s 50th cap for the club. The team are looking to build on the past few performances and with the week off the bodies should be ready to hit the ground running with 6 round robin games to go.

Congratulations to Kyle Gardyne who has made the initial Southland Country wider training squad after a man of the match performance on sub union day at Mossburn.

Also a big shoutout to all the other Eastern lads selected. If you want to see the man in action get down to Tulloch Park, Mataura this Saturday as the Magpies are playing Albion at 3pm. Will be a good day out with Mataura Cs playing Bluff in the earlier fixture, kick off 130pm.

Southland Country Wider Training Squad 2026

First training June 14th - 1:00 PM, Mossburn Rugby Club.

Second training for Wider Squad to be on Wednesday 24th of June at 7:00 PM, Midlands RFC.

Congratulations to Eddy who will play his 50th cap for the Magpies this Saturday vs Albion. Eddy who has made the number 8 jersey his own this season came down in 2023 and has been a huge part of the group whilst playing but also his commitments to being present at trainings and creating a fun Enviroment for the lads is always noticed. Another leader within the group we appreciate your presence around the club midway through your 4th season.

On behalf of the Edendale Rugby Club, good luck for ya 50th game. The lads are looking forward to a couple of good trainings this week to Prep well for the occasion.

Good luck to Kyle Gardyne who will be the lone Magpie representing Eastern tomorrow at the Sub Union tournament being held at Mossburn.
Kyle after a strong rugby league season with He Tauua continues to strive in success with his fitness, hard hits, strong running and mainly team banter which has been huge so far in the 2026 season. We look forward to seeing your progress at the next level. Good luck mate.

Division One will be taking the weekend off along with a lot of other comps but we will be back for round 9 of the Ack Soper Shield next Saturday.
