Monday's footy match between Staff and Prefects - this is the one to watch.

At this point, both sides are keen to get a win, with 1-All on the scoreboard for Volleyball and Basketball. Although, early signs indicate that Prefects are the likely victors.

Expect anything as both teams are throwing everything they have at this game

Rector Mr McIvor has allowed Head Prefect Zane Rakete-Gray to draft in King's 1st XI footballers Jonty Hill and Ryder Guthrie to his side.

Meanwhile, Staff are pinning all their hopes and dreams on Mr McPhail & Mr Corkhill. This feels more like a Hail Mary, given early sighting of the Staff team list - a heavy burden for these two fine sportsmen, expected to lead their team of relative footy novices to (what really is an unlikely) victory.

Former Director of Sport, Mr Dave Conrad has kindly volunteered to referee the match. Speaking to the pre-match Press, Mr Conrad has said that he's not afraid to make the big calls, even the unpopular calls, when necessary. There have been murmurings that Mr Conrad will favour the students with tight decisions, rather than be accused of helping his former colleagues. Further journalist investigation have identified this to be fake news.

The match is at Tonga Park, 2:15-2:45pm next Monday, September 14th.

Climbing the Walls

This week, Marlee Silva (Y13) and I were part of a joint schools team (King's, Otago Boys' and Logan Park) competing in the South Island Secondary Schools Climbing Competition in Christchurch.

As a team, we placed 2nd in the men’s, and 4th overall. We were also 1st place of all the teams from Dunedin.

When going into the competition, we had a disadvantage compared to the teams from Christchurch, as the wall we were competing on is based there, meaning they have lots of opportunities to train, while we need to do all the climbs on sight.

The competition involved each team (of which there were 45) having 8 minutes on each rope. In this time, the team needs to get all 4 members up the wall to gain points. On each rope there was an easy, middle, and advanced grade, with each scoring more points than the last. Each member only had one attempt per rope. After the 8 minutes was up, the team had to rotate to the next rope, where they get another 8 minutes. The competition lasted over two days, each with about 7 hours of climbing (average).

Marketing was passing by Mr Bain's Y10 English class deeply engrossed in reading in the Library, and couldn't resist a few snaps. Congrats to the 3 lads (first photo) who won Canteen Vouchers for their steady progress in reading.
