And here it is... the 2024 Farah Palmer Cup draw for our Semco Northland Kauri – proudly sponsored by Bunnings Warehouse.

There is some stiff competition, but the Kauri certainly have the talent and spirit to pack a punch for their first year in the Premiership.

And to top it off, we are taking game 5 to Kaitaia with Canterbury making their way up to the Far North 👀

Jordan Hutchings has signed with the Semco Northland Taniwha through to 2025.

Jordan was brought up in Dargaville and played all his youth rugby in the area before gaining a scholarship with Rotorua Boys High School in his final year of college. Originally a Loose Forward, Jordan has made the transition to Ho**er and has been developing in the Auckland Rugby system.

Jordan gained selection for The Blues U20s in 2021 and 2022 followed by the Barbarians team in 2023 which competed in the Super Rugby U20s. Jordan’s return to Northland is a boost for the province and also highlights a pathway for returning players back home.

Last year MOTAT acquired a beloved former emergency rescue helicopter, rich in history, to add to its collection of first-responder vehicles.

The Sikorsky S-76A, affectionately known as Juliet, needed a little TLC from our Aviation Workshop Team and was expertly reassembled during the past six months.

The rejuvenated helicopter will be on display to the public for the first time at LIVE Day: First Responders on Sunday 18 February.

Donated to MOTAT by Northland Rescue Helicopters, it was a key part of their emergency medical service for more than 20 years and Juliet is known to many in Te Tai Tokerau.

But Juliet’s history goes even deeper than its time as a first responder vehicle and includes a famous circumnavigation of the globe. You can read all about the Sikorsky’s fascinating past in our latest curatorial story here: https://www.motat.nz/collections-and-stories/stories/in-praise-of-juliet-our-sikorsky-helicopter/
