So it's that time of the year again......
Club knockouts, this one, the singles knockouts with shots given. Two matches played today.... two winners, two knockouts!!π€£ποΈββοΈπΊ. Mr Bunt had to play one of the heavyweights... Ken Bing. Mr Bunt riding a 15 shots given toiled away, but Ken was just too consistent , seeing off that challenge, winning 4 and 3!! Congrats to Ken, tough luck to Mr Bunt.
The second match today pitted experience against immaturity ποΈββοΈπΊπ€£. Good old steady Mr Colin laying his challenge down to the club captain, THE BOSS!!π€£. With THE BOSS having to give Mr Colin 29 shots...it was definitely " game on "! An uninspiring start by THE BOSS, hitting his first tee ball out on state highway 7, setting the tone for this match. There was a glint of excitement in Mr Colin's eye....what unfolded was a match of pure chess. Mr Colin 3 up after 5 holes, not giving the club captain a look in, sinking putts like sinking tuisπΊ. It's a marathon though, not a sprint. As fatigue start to show in Mr Colins game, THE BOSS slowly knawed away at his task!! Finally tying the match on the 16th hole. A golden opportunity for THE BOSS to take a 1up lead onto the last tee, was not taken. So onto the 18th, all square, neither trooper keen to go up the 19th.
And Mr Colin, with a shot on his sleeve....golf time!ποΈββοΈπ€·ββοΈ. Steady old Mr Colin put one down the middle, but about 30 meters short, THE BOSS, flauked one nearly off the middle of his club, on the green 20 feet from the pin.
Then the unthinkable, Mr Colin put in a little " shank" hit a golf trundle and the door was opened for the club captain. Mr Colin put his 3rd on the green, and two putted for a 5, nett 4.
THE BOSS had 2 putts for the win or a 3 putt would see the boys off to the 19th! A reasonable lag putt by THE BOSS, but still a bum squeaker 6 footer for the winner!! Managed to hit it just slow enough to catch the lip of the cup, do a full victory lap of the hole, and in!! A great contest to the very last putt.
A relieved club captain, and an unlucky Mr Colin, but pleasantly satisfied with his efforts.
Two great matches, what golf is about!!ππΊποΈββοΈπΊ
