The countdown is officially on! 🥳

In just 18 days, Cromwell becomes the centre of the gold panning world as competitors, supporters and visitors arrive for the 2026 World Gold Panning Championships.

After such a fantastic experience in Spain last year, the NZ Gold Panning Team can’t wait to welcome our international friends and showcase our patch of the world.

With world-class competition, local entertainment, great food, culture and plenty of Central Otago hospitality, it’s shaping up to be a week to remember! 🏆✨

🌏 THE WORLD IS COMING TO CROMWELL!
The international field for the 49th World Gold Panning Championships is growing, with competitors already registered from 11 countries:
South Africa • Australia • Finland • Sweden • Czech Republic • Slovakia • Poland • Canada • Germany • France • Papua New Guinea
And we're especially excited to welcome Papua New Guinea competing for the first time!
More countries and competitors are expected to join as registrations continue.
Competitors go head-to-head in purpose-built sluices, each containing a set amount of gold. The winner is the competitor who recovers the most gold.
Skill. Speed. Technique. Nerves. And gold!
11 countries registered. More on the way. One World Championship title to win.

KIWI KAI & KAPA HAKA NIGHT — A SPECIAL CULTURAL EVENING IN CROMWELL
