Becoming self-employed is genuinely one of the best decisions I’ve made.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s hard work. Some days you feel like you’re absolutely smashing it, and other days you’re just riding the wave, backing yourself and believing you can make it happen 😂

But I’ve also met some incredible people along the way, and I’m so grateful for every client who has trusted me with their training, goals and health. Being able to do something I genuinely love every day is something I’ll never take for granted.

For years, becoming self-employed was something I talked about doing.

Then I invested in a coach and 6 weeks later, I finally took the leap.

Not because my coach did the work for me, but because I had someone giving me direction, holding me accountable and pushing me to take action.

And that experience reinforced something I now see in fitness too:

The right coach can help you get where you want to go faster, but you still have to be willing to put the work in.

Sometimes investing in yourself is exactly what you need to stop going around in the same loop and finally move forward.

Big credit to Sarah Robb | Mindset Coach & Speaker for helping me finally take the leap 🤍

There’s a misconception that because someone is strong, confident and moves well in the gym now, it must have always come naturally to them.
It definitely didn’t for me 😂

This was me 15 years ago.
Very little strength.
Very little balance.
Not much coordination … clearly 😂

And definitely not confident in what I was doing.

I remember turning up to group classes with my mum at Fitness First and feeling SO out of my comfort zone.

But I kept showing up.

And over time, I got stronger. I learnt how to move better. I became more confident. And eventually, training became a huge part of my life and then my career.

So if you’re starting your strength journey and you feel awkward, weak or like everyone else knows what they’re doing except you…
Please don’t compare your beginning to someone else’s 15 years of practice.

You don’t need to be strong to start strength training.
You get strong because you start.

And credit where it’s due … , your classes were awesome 💪🏼

I used to think training more was the answer.

I’d train 5–6 days a week, but my weekends were filled with late nights, drinking, poor sleep… followed by spending the next few days trying to recover.

So naturally, I thought I needed to train harder.

What I actually needed was to look at the bigger picture.

Now I train less, but I train with more purpose. I prioritise my sleep, recovery, nutrition and the habits that make me feel good.

And yes, I still go out and enjoy myself.

The difference is that my weekends now align with and support my goals, rather than feeling like I’m constantly starting again every Monday.

You don’t have to choose between having a life and making progress.

You need an approach that actually works alongside your life.

And that’s exactly what I want my clients to build too.

Personally, chasing JUST an aesthetic goal left me feeling worse about my body.

But training for performance? That left me feeling strong, confident and empowered.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to change how your body looks. I still have aesthetic goals myself.

But when your only goal is a six-pack, a smaller waist or a number on the scales, it can become very easy to constantly look for what still needs “fixing”.

I found that when I shifted some of my focus away from what my body looked like and towards what my body could do, everything changed.

Running a marathon. Getting stronger. Working towards pull-ups. Lifting heavier.

Those goals made me appreciate my body rather than constantly critique it.

So yes, have the aesthetic goal.

But give yourself something to DO as well.

You might be surprised by how much more confident you feel along the way.

Movement shouldn’t feel like a chore, but let’s be realistic it sometimes feels like it when you’re busy!

Here is a quick easy way I increase my daily activity 👌🏼
