Saturday May 9 600 yards

A truly special Autumn afternoon greeted shooters who arrived to set up for a 600 yards training day. Blue skies and a very light wind instead of the gale force north-westerly winds that had been forecast.

Two shooters want to confirm their zero settings at 300 yards - which we recommend if anyone is unsure of their zero. After that was done we moved to 600 yards for the shooring.

Again scores weren't recorded as shooters were mainly testing loads - powder types, powder weights or projectile seating depths.

Next week:
Saturday May 16 Champions of Champions
The Champions of the Malvern Rifle Club shoot off against the Champions of the Ashburton District Rifle Club for the prestige of being Canterbury Champions.
There will be space and time for others to shoot as well.

Anzac Day April 25 2026
Club Training Day 300 yards

15 shooters - more than were expected - came to shoot on the afternoon of Anzac Day.

Some had travelled from afar, from Auckland and the West Coast to experience a wonderful afternoon on the Malvern Range. A warm almost windless afternoon with very little wind.

Club shooters assisted and supervised those who were new to the range.

As it was a training day scores weren't recorded though Andre and Charlie were seen to shoot some possibles (50/50 and 60/60 respectively).

Appropriately there was one shooter using a 303.

Next week will be another training day at 600 yards.

Saturday April 4 Club Training Day

A cooler, damp day greeted everyone with a southerly wind blowing across the range. While it wasn't warm the forecast rain didn't arrive and conditions were good for shooting.

Scores weren't kept but some good scores were seen.
Charlie started his day with a 60.10 at 300 yards. The new calibre seems to be working well for him.

We hosted 6 visitors from a local Rod & Gun Club who came to experience some "longer range" shooting. Club members assisted the visitors when needed. Our visitors shot some good scores too.

Range CLOSED April 11.
Canterbury Autumn Champs hosted by the Ashburton District Rifle Club from 0900 April 11 & 12.
