Overall, a successful night for the boys at the annual Canterbury Motorcycle Speedway Club Prizegiving held yesterday evening.

• Leo scooped up the Moore Park Speedway season points award to go with his Mooreti Cup series title in Junior Lites, and then capped it off with the Sportsperson of the year award for the category.

• Hudson placed second in 125c.c. season points at Moore Park, along with his second place finish in the Mooreti Cup standings. Hudson also added the Sportsperson of the year award in his category.

The best was saved for last, however, with Hudson announced as this season's recipient of the Gillard Trust Scholarship! The premier award for Junior Speedway in Canterbury, Hudson will be putting the additional funding towards some new gear for next season.

Finally, congrats to Uncle Simon, who won the Abernethy Volunteer Award. Simon took on the role of starter at Moore Park this season, and absolutely loves what he does. Well deserved!

The boys would like to thank their sponsors and supporters:

• Wheel Building Services
• Team Crowe Tiling
• The Lang Family
• Ross Buckland
• Groundwork

Another busy weekend for the team!

• Saturday, it was Oxford Speedway, with Jade and her #24 Arrow in action in Junior Rotax, where the youth categories were on the support card for the NZ Youth Ministock Champs.

Jade had a good day, growing faster and more confident in the Kart as the day went on. In her three races for the day, Jade came away with two thirds and a win, whilst also gaining a heap of experience running against older teenagers who usually line up against Dad and Uncle Ben.

A big thanks must go to Oxford Speedway for accommodating the kids this weekend, and Christchurch Speedway Karts for organising it.

• Sunday, it was Leo and Hudson's turn, with the duo getting some valuable training laps on bigger machinery at Moore Park ahead of next season.

Leo had already turned some laps on 125 bikes earlier in the season, but still took his time getting used to the bike that Hudson has been riding for the past couple seasons. With a little bit more power in his right hand, and not being able to wring it all out like he had on the 70, it was all very much still a new experience for him. But Leo - being the motivated little guy that he is - is driven to improve, and we're looking forward to seeing what he can do next season.

For Hudson, it was a day of firsts; his first time on a 200, and his first ride on a full size bike. Right off the bat, Hudson rode it like he was on the 125, and enjoyed the handling characteristics of the bigger bike, as well as having a bit more power. Safe to say, he's pretty excited about whats to come!

A big thanks must go to Rick providing the bikes and getting them prepped, and all the other things he does behind the scenes for Junior Speedway.

Also, thanks to

Wheel Building Services
Groundwork
The Lang Family
Mark Lyndon

(And cheers to Terry Casey for the photos from Sunday)

North Vs South Challenge

Christchurch Speedway Karts

Saturday started early heading to Ellesmere speedway.
Jade and Matt ready to spin some laps and have some fast Karting fun!

Matt had a good first heat in the Preadtor starting 8th bringing it home 6th.
Second heat the kart had other ideas and didnt want to start 🤷 lucky enough the Legacy kart (Bens kart from last season) was being raced by Brendon, was ready to go! jumped into the 44 and started off grid 2 drove it as hard as I could bringing it home in 3rd.
Tried everything on the 22 to get it going sadly didnt happen thanks to Brad lane for the spares to try.
Heat 3 into the 44 again and off grid 8 managed to make up 1 place on a dusty track.
Into the feature I was off 16ish with alot of laps under caution before the race started as karts were sitting on pit gate getting work done.
Race started and was going great passing karts where I could couple more cautions and some good restarts I went into turn 3 finding karts spun up tried to avoid and ended up being pushed from a kart behind sending me into the wall backwards bending the axle and ending my race.

Jade had a great day in the 24c arrow
Completing all of her races, driving very well only one impressive mistake on turn 4 in front of Mum, Dad Leo and Hudson spinning up and doing a 360 to carry on like it was ment to be.
Jades heats had front and two rear grinds
Where she had a
heat 1 2nd
Heat 2 1st
Heat 3 2nd
Leaving Jade 2nd on points bring home a podium! So proud of her efforts!

Sunday was a bit wet out in oxford for the funday Sunday with a BBQ cooked up for everyone thanks to Fearless Kiwi Racing
We managed to figure out the problem with the 22 finding radiator coolant in the cylinder 😤 cheers to Jason Taylor and everyone for the help!
Head came off to find two head bolts with no spring washers and a damaged o ring on the head seal. Thanks to Glen at Aroha Karts we had a another and put that in to spin some laps in the mud to enjoy the rest of the day! Jade also had some fun on oxfords soggy track!
All in all a great weekend with the north island team coming down to race taking the trophy home. We'll done guys and girls. Thanks for coming!

Ben did an awesome job as the referee on the day keeping everyone on the track safe and fair.

The weekend wouldn't have been possible without the team behind us making it all happen Laura Hudson Leo
Avan from Riccarton Signs for the awesome looking kart!
Team Crowe Tiling
Moxy's Workshop
Michael Fox and Penny for the pit help and some stunning trophies you made!

Short Track Champs 2026:

After a successful night on Saturday, it was back to Moore Park Speedway the next day for this season's edition of the Short Track Championship.

Drizzle throughout the day had pushed the meeting back by an hour, but thanks to the Moore Park track crew, and those who decided to press on, we ended up with a track that was a little bit challenging, but extremely fast.

With Matt's bike career on hold once more after the high of Saturday night, it was left to Hudson and Leo to carry on with the family torch on Sunday, and the boys certainly kept the forward momentum going!

• Hudson went through his heats unbeaten - but certainly not unchallenged, with the level of 125 racing having stepped up a notch across the field as the season has progressed. Hudson had a great run in the final, losing out a bit off the gate, but closing up the gap to the leader in the final laps to finish second, and another blue sash for the weekend. Congratulations to Maddox Harley on the win, Arlen Voice in third, and Coby Drake fourth, and rider of the day.

• Leo has been enjoying racing with the Junior Lites again, against bikes and riders more at his level of speed. Much like Hudson, Leo also went unbeaten in the heats, with his experience probably the advantage on the field with the trickier track. On the points sheet, he made it a perfect night, taking the overall win over Leo Cogle, with the Messervy brothers, Abel third and Phoenix fourth, and rider of the day.

The boys would like to thank:
CRL Auto Services
Wheel Building Services
Team Crowe Tiling
Groundwork
Rick for his ongoing support, and building some wicked fast bikes for us.
Ross for all he does behind the scenes
Mum (Laura) for keeping everyone fed, and the points up to date.
Jade, Simon, Scott, Chase, Cooper, all the competitors and the Moore Park team.

Next week, we do it all again for another two-dayer with the Karts at the third annual North vs. South.
A little preview of that to come this week...
🏁

Ronnie Moore Memorial / Remembrance Championship
Team Crowe’s day started with an 8:30am breakfast, then Hudson, Leo, and Matt took a short trip to CRL Auto Services to help the Lang family transport six speedway bikes to the track.
Arriving at the track, Wayne McLintock was unloading four stunning bikes from different solo speedway eras — a warm welcome it was! The old red 125 made its way up the track from the pits, joining around 20 other vintage bikes glistening in the overcast conditions (a bitter wind kept most people in jackets).
Bikes were checked for their Speedway New Zealand tick of approval. A look at the track showed it was perfect. As the pits filled up, midday arrived.
Matt geared up for a ride on a 500cc speedway bike. Glen Sole had kindly offered Matt a GM upright classic solo bike for the meeting. It had been 18 years since he last rode one — just like riding a bike, some would say 😅
With nerves aside, Matt headed out onto the track with Wayne McLintock for his first ride. He completed some laps and even got the back wheel spinning — that feeling of sliding a speedway bike again was unreal.
After a trip back to the pits for some wise words from some local heros, Matt was keen for Moore. The second training run showed improved control and confidence. By 1pm, training was over and race meeting preparation began.
T-shirts were flying out of the van for prepaid members, and the sign board was quickly filling with signatures. After a good riders’ briefing, bikes started warming up!
The grand parade saw Matt race up to the display to grab the red 125 for a slow lap with the boys, followed by a moment of silence for loved ones no longer with us.
Hudson and Leo ran their first heats, both finishing with seconds in their respective classes on a smooth, flat track — possibly catching them by surprise 😉
Matt was next in the Classics class, starting off the back due to mentor program rules. He had a great ride with Wayne McLintock, learning lines and finding the best parts of the track. A look up the inside for a lap saw him finish 2nd behind Andy Aldridge, who had left us in his dust earlier.
Hudson’s next heat saw him gate well and lead to the chequered flag, riding smooth and fast.
In Leo’s heat, he was strong out of the tapes — three wide into turn one — found a clean line and took the win by a couple of bike lengths ahead of Leo Cogle, both on identical 70cc RL Racing bikes. These two are showing and learning great racing skills, and the equal machinery makes for exciting racing.
Matt’s next ride was another solid run, bringing it home 2nd again — just!
Third round of heats:
Hudson brought the 51c machine home in 2nd, chasing Rory Aldridge in a close race.
Leo secured another 1st, banking more points
Finals:
Hudson went into the A Final 3rd on points, choosing gate 2. Maddox Harley was on gate 1, Rory Aldridge on gate 3, and B Final winner Arlen Voice took gate 4.
All riders out of the gate fast with Maddox coming out of first corner ahead of Hudson hot on his skidshoe Rory right with them, made for an exciting race, Hudson threw everything at Madox tried around the outside couldnt make it work, went looking down low to have the door shut by Madox many times. Brought the 125 home in 2nd well done
Leo was looking forward to his final. With four junior lights Abel Messervy and Phoenix Messervy filling the other spots over four heats, the overall points decided the winner. In the last race, Leo chased down the 371 of Leo Cogle by didnt quite get there at the checkered to finish 2nd.
Both Leos were tied on points, with the result decided on countback to the first race — where Leo had finished 2nd.
Matt’s final saw him again battling Wayne McLintock. Despite pushing hard, Wayne held him off with a fast ride.
Matt finished 2nd overall — another strong result for Team Crowe.
A huge thanks to Laura and Jade for keeping everyone fed and handling all junior class scoring — outstanding effort. Couldn’t do it without you ❤️
Thanks also to Ben for helping with T-shirt sales and the sign board.
Rick Lang, Ross buckland for great bikes!
Wheel Building Services
Simon, Brendon, Wayne, Allen, Michael, Avan, Phill and Gracie for supporting all of us!
Felt the support today!
A cracker day celebrating solo speedway at Moorepark.
Racing was clean, fast, and entertaining.
