Anne's Falls to Coopers K**b, 12 August 2026

On 12 August the Avon Tramping Club went to Anne's Falls (or possibly Anne Falls, yes we saw two, one above the other). We tramped over private land then onto walking tracks in Ahuriri / Omahu Bush/ Summit Road areas.

The weather was rather cold, windy and foggy but the bird life was astounding and we all had a wonderful time.

Rakaia Gorge, 22 July 2026

The Avon Tramping club had a most wonderful day up in the Rakaia Gorge. The sun was shining and the birds were singing. Garry, who'd been there many times, claimed he had never seen it so windless and sunny. We met up with Robert who was working daily to rid the Rakaia Gorge of possums. 1300 so far plus a couple of large cats.. Checkout his website www.thefantailtrust.org

Orton Bradley Waterfall Track, 15 July 2026

The Avon Tramping Club set off from the stunning Orton Bradley Park. The forest is beautiful with streams to cross and three waterfalls to see, each getting better the further we went. We were lucky in that there was plenty of water up there. The bird song was wonderful

Mid-winter Christmas, Hanmer 17-19 June 2026

The Avon Tramping Club spent three delightful days in Hanmer from 17th June.

The first day we drove straight up Jacks Pass Rd and tackled Mt Dunblane. The fog became quite soupy at the top so we had lunch at the saddle and descended. A couple of us even took the Chatterton River track back into town. It was challenging but do-able.

We then had a delightful soak in the hot pools while Garry cooked us dinner and dessert.

The next day the sun was out, the wind was gone and we summited Mt Isobel. It couldn't have been more perfect. Again it was a challenge descending but with a promise of another hot pool soak and a three course Christmas dinner we all made it back safely.
