👏🐻🏆 The Fozzies have done it again! It's another trophy in the bulging cabinet for the premier Saints T20 side. In today's Minor Competition final played on Hagley 5, a total of 140/2 was built on the foundation of retirements from Chris Bird (40) and Shanan Stewart (42) and topped off by an unbeaten 31 from the evergreen Kade Atkinson. A target of 7-an-over on an artie might well be a cinch, but when playing on the largest lower grade turf ground in the city it's quite another story. The Fozzies gave away just 3 fours and 1 maximum in 20 overs, with the Halswell Blazers sputtering to 96/7 in their 20 overs, for a decisive 44-run margin.
In fine conditions in front of an amazing crowd of 40+ Fozzies alumni, families and club members the team sprayed the champers to celebrate a 5th title in the space of 6 seasons with the club (to go with a couple of others earned back in the day at other clubs). They join a rare selection of teams who have picked up at least one piece of silverware in 3 consecutive seasons.
St Albans Cavaliers Fozzies T20 title collection:
🏆 2020/21 (Section 2)
🏆🏆 2023/24 (Section 1 - Major + Minor)
🏆 2024/25 (Section Red - Major)
🏆 2025/26 (Section 1 - Minor)
Note that in recent years, due to the Cavaliers grade being so large (35 entries throughout this season), teams compete for a major championship title during the round-robin before either being split into smaller sections or going straight to knockouts to compete for the minor championship to close out the season. The team were unfortunate not to get a chance to claim the double this season as their match against eventual winners Sumner was washed out. Winning 16 of 18 games this season, 1 of their 2 losses was a last-ball 6-run thriller against the Saints Chin Swingers in week 2.
The winning squad included: Kade Atkinson, Louis Bertie, Chris Bird, Matt Cameron, David Cattermole, Aaron Clarke, Ryan Coxon, Jeremy Good, Daniel Grinter, James Kirkpatrick, Hugo Langridge, Chris McIvor, Steve McLeod, Symon Pierce, John Stewart, Shanan Stewart, Marcus Stufkens, Dave Sutherland, Damian Whiting and Nick Yardley. 💙💛
