Vikings Swim Club

Vikings Swim Club Vikings Swim Club is a focused, welcoming club where all swimmers receive targeted coaching. Our swimmers range in age from 9 to 20 years.

All squads are overseen and coached by Head Coach George Long, ensuring consistency and quality technique across every stroke. Vikings Swim Club was established in 2013 to provide a pathway for talented swimmers from Kings Swim School into the world of competitive swimming. Coached by Head Coach Marco Troiani and Assistant Coach Eliana Toriani, the club is a junior & senior club and is now in a gr

owth phase. We currently have two main squads β€” Junior and Senior β€” with a Competition Squad created for targeted training in the lead-up to major events. Our team philosophy is an extension of Kings Swim School’s: learning to grow through competitive swimming. We are about having fun and encouraging everyone to achieve his or her full potential as a swimmer and as a person. Every swimmer's achievements are equally significant and we are just as proud of our have-a-go swimmers as we are of our national champion. We are very fortunate to have a great group of coaches, swimmers and parents involved who are positive, dedicated and enthusiastic and building a fantastic team culture. We are based at Kings Swim School, 218a Main South Road and attend local, regional and some national meets.

Wowee – what a Battle of the Ages! πŸ’™πŸ’›

What a weekend! So many smiles, so many PBs, plenty of ribbons, some seriously fast relay racing, amazing team spirit, and lots of loud cheering from the sidelines and the end of the lanes. The pool was buzzing all weekend long!

A massive thank you to everyone in our club who helped make Battle of the Ages 2026 such a success.

To Ange, Glenys, and Deb, the amount of work that happens behind the scenes before a meet even starts is huge, and we are incredibly grateful for everything you did to make the weekend happen. Thank you also to our committee for all the planning, preparation, and behind-the-scenes work leading up to the meet.

To all of our lane race and catering sponsors, raffle donors, families, supporters, volunteers, marshals, warm-down lane marshals, ribbon table helpers, raffle sellers, food preparation teams, food servers, and everyone who jumped in wherever needed – thank you. It truly takes a village to run a swim meet, and once again our Vikings community showed what it's all about.

A special shout-out to our Mini Vikings helpers Maggie, Emma, and Leila, who looked fantastic in their Vikings hats while helping on the raffle desk and handing out food. You girls were absolute superstars!

To our coaches, George and Hannah – thank you. We’re so lucky to have you both. From the structured dryland warm-ups, to race prep, pacing for new races, , you were everywhere all weekend & doing what you do best. The way you were guiding, encouraging, and talking the swimmers through their races, and getting the very best out of them was awesome to see. Thank you for everything you bring to the club, every single day.

And to Todd, thank you for joining us and seeing all the Vikings in action. It was neat to have you back on pool deck!

A huge thank you also to our officials and timekeepers. Swim meets simply don't happen without you. We know it can be a long day poolside, and we are so grateful for the time you give to our sport. The success of a meet really does rest on the shoulders of all officials and volunteers.

We were lucky enough to have Cameron Long join us for a few sessions to capture all the action. There are some great photos coming - watch this space! πŸ“Έ

A big thank you to all the other clubs who joined us – we hope you all had a great time racing back at the Selwyn Aquatic Centre. It was so good to be back there and everyone close to the action.

Most importantly, thank you to our swimmers. You raced hard, supported your teammates, celebrated each other’s successes, and represented Vikings with pride. Whether you came away with a PB, a ribbon, a towel, or simply gained valuable race experience, you should all be proud!

That's a wrap on Battle of the Ages 2026 - see you all again next year. πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈπŸ’™πŸ’›πŸ†

Also, congrats to Amelia on receiving her latest record certificate from Swimming Canterbury West Coast. πŸ†

Amelia first broke the Long Course Girls 9-Year 50m Backstroke, Canterbury Record in January at the 2026 SCWC Long Course Champs. Since then, she has gone on to break her own record a further two times, with the most recent achievement coming at the Waitaha Summer Sizzler.

This record was previously held by Emma Ashley, who set it in 2020.
Awesome swimming, Amelia - keep up the great work!

Have a great Sunday rest day, everyone. We hope you're all looking forward to another strong week of training as we build towards our Battle of the Ages meet next weekend. πŸ™Œ
