And that’s a wrap on my Canterbury Metro U16 journey, representing the Black Squad. ⚫️🔴
Two years done and dusted, and incredibly grateful for the opportunity to grow, learn and be part of it all.
From making the final last year and losing to Nelson by just one point, to going one better and winning it this season. Pretty sure we’re the first Metro Black team to achieve that, which makes it even more special!
I’m grateful for the coaches I’ve had around me and everything I’ve been able to learn from them. One thing I never want to lose is the ability to learn from anyone and anything. There’s always something to take away.
I’ve once again loved coaching what I’m most passionate about — collision and defence. Six weeks of grind, and I’m incredibly proud of the boys for adjusting, adapting and buying into everything we threw at them. They took on the challenge and got the reward.
It’s pretty special knowing you’ve played even a small part in the journey of some of these young men. There are some very bright futures ahead, whether that’s in the 15-man or 13-man code.
But the best part of it all was having my two boys beside me throughout the journey. Being able to give them a taste of the experiences I was fortunate enough to have as a young rep player, and hopefully grow their own passion for rugby along the way, is something I’ll always value.
A massive thank you to everyone who has been part of the journey. The coaches, management, players and everyone behind the scenes.
Two years, plenty of lessons, some great memories and a championship to finish it off.
Grateful for it all. ⚫️🔴
