Exciting season for NEXT STEP’s Seb coming up! 🤩
For the second time in as many seasons, Sebastian Schacht has been named to the Preseason All-WCC team, announced on Wednesday morning by the West Coast Conference. The award comes as the latest feather in the cap of the Gaels outstanding midfielder, who figures to help lead the charge as Saint Mary's looks to reclaim the WCC title. Along with the preseason team, the WCC released its Preseason Coaches Poll, which had the Gaels finishing second beyond only Loyola Marymount.
For Schacht, it marks the second-straight year that he has been named to the Preseason All-WCC team after earning honors in the spring leading up to the 2020 season, which was played during the first few months of 2021. Last year, Schacht was also named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List. He followed up the preseason honors by being named First Team All-WCC and Second Team All-Region, both for the second time in his career. He scored three times on penalty kicks for SMC, and recorded one assists for seven points. Defensively, he helped the Gaels post four shutouts and was rarely off the pitch, finishing third on the team in minutes.
