EDELRID Knowledge Base - Harmful substances for ropes and slings

During storage, transport and use personal protective equipment (PPE) may come into contact with chemical substances. While being transported, for example, in a car PPE may come into close proximity with engine oil, spare batteries or AdBlue. When used in industrial climbing, contact with chemical substances is also an issue, for example when cleaning special equipment or facilities or when handling motorized tools while climbing trees. Plastics are particularly affected by damage, as they are far more susceptible to chemical effects than metals.

We want to address the question of how chemicals affect textile PPE, and which substances are to be regarded as particularly critical.

AXIOM SLIDER

Carabiner with integrated pulley in the spine. The pulley reduces rope friction to a minimum and the pulley maintains its function even under load. The optimized design of the AXIOM ensures that the rope is always ideally guided so that the rope can always run on the pulley. Available with a very compact SLIDER locking gate. Edelrid's Interstatic Protect 11.0mm Rope is a static rope with integrated cut resistance. This means high-strength aramid fibres are integrated into the rope sheath during the braiding process. Making it have almost double the cut resistance of other static ropes with a comparable sheath proportion and diameter.

This along with other features make it the first choice for all applications where a rope might be exposed to sharp edges.
