As one season comes to a close, the athletes who improve most next season are already starting the review process.

Most athletes immediately think about what they need to do more of.

More training.
More fitness.
More strength.
More sessions.

But the athletes who improve most next season are rarely the athletes blindly doing more.

They’re the athletes who learn the most from the season they’ve just had.

A quality review is not a list of strengths and weaknesses.

It’s an investigation.

What actually moved performance forward?

What created unnecessary fatigue?

What should be stopped?
What should be started?
What should be kept?

The challenge isn’t collecting more information.

It’s finding the signal amongst the noise.

Sometimes that means zooming in and identifying the small details that influenced performance.

Sometimes it means zooming out and understanding how the bigger picture fits together.

The goal isn’t to fix everything.

The goal is to identify what matters most.

Because clarity creates better decisions.

Better decisions create better plans.

And better plans create better performances.

This is why at Squash Performance Labs we don’t just write training programmes.

We help athletes build performance systems.

By integrating physical preparation, competition schedules, monitoring, reflection, planning and decision-making, we help athletes create an environment where learning, growth and performance can compound over time.

Because long-term development is rarely limited by effort.

More often, it’s limited by clarity.

Review.
Simplify.
Prioritise.
Execute.

If you’re already thinking about next season, now is the time to review, reflect and build a plan.

Privileged to be working along side Paul Coll for his third British Open title this week.
His attention to detail, professionalism, and relentless unbreakable mindset is inspiring.
After 18 years in elite sport, the way he operates is something I have only seen a handful of athletes match and it’s no surprise that he has had the sustained success that he has in this sport.

Recovery during tournaments is often made far more complicated than it needs to be.

Athletes chase ice baths, compression boots, supplements and recovery gadgets while overlooking the things that have the biggest impact on how they perform the next day.

Start with the foundations.

😴 Sleep
🍽️ Nutrition
💧 Hydration
🧘 Relaxation & down-regulation

These are the big rocks.

They drive the majority of recovery outcomes and create the platform for consistent performance across a tournament.

Once those foundations are in place, recovery enhancers can help restore movement quality and reduce accumulated fatigue.

🤸 Mobility restoration
🚶 Flush cardio
🌬️ Breathwork
🧊 Cold water immersion
💆 Massage

Useful? Absolutely.

But they don’t compensate for poor recovery foundations.

The goal during a tournament isn’t to do every recovery modality available.

The goal is to consistently execute the things that matter most.

Because recovery isn’t about doing more.

It’s about being ready to perform again tomorrow.
