Turning Guilt and Other Emotions into a Parenting Resource:

Parenting is full of joy – those little moments of connection, laughter, and pride. But it can also be challenging, especially when emotions like guilt, shame, or frustration creep in.

What if these feelings weren’t a burden, but a compass? They don’t have to control you or linger like unwanted guests. Notice them, listen, and let them gently nudge you toward what matters most.

Strong emotions can become a resource, helping you parent intentionally, with clarity and confidence, steering your choices in the direction you truly want.

💡 Notice your emotions today – what are they trying to guide you toward?

If you’d like some support exploring your emotions and using them as resources in your parenting, feel free to reach out. Sometimes a fresh perspective is all it takes to feel stronger and more intentional.

I find myself reacting more and more to the notion that ASD and ADHD are only seen as disabilities. Yes, there are very real challenges - but that’s not the whole story.

Too often, the conversation stops at what’s hard, what’s “lacking,” or what doesn’t fit a narrow version of “normal.” But what about the creativity, the intense focus, the passion, the outside-the-box thinking, the sensitivity to detail, the loyalty, the honesty, the drive for justice, the humour? These aren’t just side effects—they’re central parts of how many neurodivergent brains tick.

I’m not saying ignore the hard stuff. I’m saying let’s stop defining people only by it.

Check out this video on ADHD - it's refreshing, strengths-based, and reflects the work I’ve been doing with adults recently. It captures so much of what often gets missed in mainstream conversations.

"Kids do well if they can."
I am a bit of a sucker for Mel Robins at the moment. I came across this Mel Robbins interview today and thought it was worth sharing. A great reminder that 'kids do well if they can!'—such a simple yet powerful perspective. It really highlights how much effort children put into doing well—especially when they’re struggling.

Let me know what you think.

Are You Getting the Right Kind of Rest?

Feeling exhausted but not sure why? Sometimes, rest isn’t just about sleep—it's about knowing what kind of reset you actually need.

We often push through burnout, thinking a quick nap or a weekend off will fix everything. But rest is more than just physical—our minds, emotions, creativity, and even our social energy all need different forms of restoration.

Here are a few examples:

Mental rest – If your brain feels overloaded, try setting boundaries with work or practicing mindfulness.
Sensory rest – If constant noise, screens, and bright lights are draining you, quiet time in a dimly lit space could help.
Emotional rest – If you’re feeling emotionally drained from always being there for others, talking with someone you trust or journaling might be what you need.
Each aspect of our well-being requires unique attention. The key is recognising what kind of rest will truly recharge you.

I came across this infographic and found it a great way to reflect on the different ways we might need to reset. Have a look and see what kind of rest you might need today.

Back to Work and Ready to Go!

After a well-earned summer break, it’s time to get back into the swing of things. Stepping away for a while has been a great reminder of just how important rest and reset are—not just for avoiding burnout but for coming back with fresh energy, new perspectives, and a clear focus.

Now, with the year ahead full of possibilities, I’m feeling recharged and ready to dive back in. Whether it’s supporting clients, tackling new challenges, or continuing to grow, I’m excited for what’s to come.

If you're also easing back into work, take it as a chance to set your intentions for the year ahead. What do you want more of in 2025? What boundaries will help you maintain balance?

If you’re looking for support in making meaningful changes, setting goals, or navigating challenges, let’s work together. Get in touch, and let’s create a plan that works for you.

It is vital that we understand masking in school, and the trauma and burnout that it can leave. One of the reasons I became a teacher was to make the experience better for the children that I teach than it was for me. Teachers: just because a child is quiet or compliant doesn’t mean that they are not struggling- they might need support. Parents: when a child comes home and wants to hide in their bedroom it doesn’t make them anti-social or lazy- they are recovering.

This week is Thanksgiving in the USA, and it’s a perfect reminder to pause and think about gratitude.

Finding things to be thankful for isn’t always easy. Life can be challenging, and sometimes it feels like gratitude is hard to reach. But when we take a moment to shift our mindset, adjust our perspective, or just decide to be thankful—even for small things—it can make such a difference.

Why is gratitude important? Studies show that practicing gratitude can boost our mood, improve our mental health, and increase resilience. Grateful thinking helps us focus on the positives in our lives, which can reduce stress and increase feelings of contentment. Gratitude also strengthens our relationships, making us more empathetic and connected to those around us.

If gratitude feels out of reach right now, know that you’re not alone. As a coach, I work with people to help shift perspectives, build resilience, and find tools like gratitude to support well-being. If you’d like some support on this journey, reach out—I’d love to help you explore what gratitude can do for you.

How does gratitude show up in your life?
