“Life is movement. once you stop moving, you’re dead. choose life.”Eugen Sandow
“Nothing happens until something moves” Albert Einstein
“Movement is a medicine for creating change in a person's physical, emotional, and mental states.” Carol Welch
Movement - it's so simple, yet vital for life.
As we get older, our body undergoes natural changes which is why we need to exercise & move our bodies regularly.
Exercise has given so many of us a place where we belong, allowed us to make new friendships and literally for so many of us it has saved our lives.
Movement is life. “Without movement, life is unthinkable.” Well it is for our family.
Our bodies are designed to move in all different directions; we run, jump, walk, swim, bend forward, backwards and so on.
Without movement we would deteriorate. In fact, excessive sitting is associated with at least 35 diseases and conditions such as back pain, obesity, cardiovascular disease, hypertension and depression. Countries such as Australia and Canada have declared excessive sitting as a catastrophe.
Blood cells that don't move cannot transport oxygen.
Lungs that don't move can't breathe.
Hearts that don't move can't pump blood.
So, you see movement, exercise is what enables our bodies to operate in all of its amazing complexity.
So in our 20s-30’s we start losing lean muscle mass and our rate of bone-building starts to slow.
In our 40s-50 we start to lose muscle mass and bone-density starts to decrease. Hormonal changes, such as those associated with menopause, can accelerate this process. And yes, sadly our body fat percentage starts to climb.
Then we reach our 60s and older: Bone health becomes very important as osteoclastic activity (the breakdown of bone) rises and osteoblastic activity (the building of bone) drops.
So, we can choose to move our bodies & enjoy our quality of life or we can choose to sit & rust away.
Me, I choose to move my body every single day and LIVE and enjoy my quality of life.
