Amid a incoming weather bomb and a undermown Coronation park it was decided to go ahead and play the annual "Battle of the Bridges" against the old foe of Waipukurau.
Opening bowlers made a new club record with an incredible first 4 overs. Tim Waite (3 wickets, 2 runs,) and Mark Bean (1 wicket, 8 runs) choked their top order. This on it's own is a great accomplishment but throw in the fact that each batter gets their first bowl as a free hit and that shows how good it really was.
From there the rest of the batsman were skittled for mostly single figures apart from a ring-in (W. Jamieson 25 runs) batting low down in the order.
With 82 runs being the target and a very very slow outfield the target was not taken lightly. Opener Scotty Boyd wanting to chase it down quickly scored 9 in the first over but then fell shortly after by a great commited catch in the outfield which saw the fielder have to visit the A&E ward.
Other opener Dylan Scott continued his golden season scoring another 30 (retired) and keeping the hope alive of not being dismissed for the entire summer.
The rest was done in small cameos that got the Waipawa team home including Rick Tait (13 caught on the boundary hooking a bouncer), William Bean playing a great test match knock (2 runs from 20 balls not out) and Hamish Adam (18 runs- only running 2 of them).
A big thanks to Waipukurau for coming over and playing in the conditions and a very big CONGRATULATIONS to Cap number 4- Scotty Boyd in his 20th game for the club and receiving his W.A.C.A Blazer. He has been a great club player on and off the field and we hope he has many more games left in him.
