We all believe the same lie: that what comes easily to us comes easily to everyone.
It doesn't. The thing you do without thinking, the maths you could teach, the garden everyone compliments, the way you can declutter a room in an afternoon, is exactly what someone else is stuck on and would happily pay for.
I tutored my neighbour's child in maths while my baby daughter slept. No product, no stock, no boxes in the hallway. Just a skill I already had.
That's the beauty of a service business. You are the product.
So before you tell yourself you have nothing to offer, write down what people ask you for help with. Start there.

I sold my first business when I realised I needed more of a creative outlet. That wasn't failure. That was the whole point.
So many women never start because they're treating the decision like a marriage. What if it's the wrong idea? What if I change my mind?
You will change your mind. Your first business teaches you what you actually want, and you can't learn that from thinking about it on the couch.
I've started three businesses and sold two. Every one taught me something the previous one couldn't.

When I started my first business I thought I needed the perfect plan, the perfect name, the perfect website.
What I actually needed was one customer.
Everything else grew from there. If you're waiting until everything is ready, you'll be waiting forever. Small and started beats perfect and planned, every single time.

The best business advice I ever got didn't come from a course or a book. It came from a McCafé manager who helped me carry a double pram up the stairs.
At the time I was running two businesses out of the spare room of a shady little cottage, with two small kids and about zero sleep. I was drowning.
Her advice took ten minutes and I'm still using it 20 years later.
It costs nothing, works whether you're already in business or just dreaming about starting one, and might show you that you have more room for a business than you think.

This week my office is the kitchen table. Not glamorous, not a proper setup, just my laptop in the middle of everything. And it got me thinking: so many women wait to start a business until they have the perfect space, the spare time, the right everything. But it almost never shows up.
