Hi there and welcome to a new cricket season at Cambridge High School.
This post contains some key dates in the next fortnight, so please have a careful read and don’t hesitate to get in touch with Chris if you have any questions.
JUNIOR MUSTER AND COLTS TRIAL
When: Tuesday January 24th, 5.30pm.
Where: CHS nets
If you are in Y9 or Y10 in 2023 you are eligible to play junior high school cricket and we would like you to come to the nets to sign up whether you are new to the school or a returning player.
CHS will field two teams - a Colts XI that plays in the premier junior grade in the Waikato Secondary School comp and a Junior XI that plays in the Y9 grade.
If you would like to be considered for the Colts we ask that you come prepared to trial. This also applies to players who were in the Colts in 2022. This will take the form of a net session with other trialists and will last around 90 minutes.
If you don’t want to trial for the colts, that’s ok! Please come along and sign up regardless as we are capturing all members of the junior playing group at the muster.
GIRLS XI MUSTER
When: Tuesday January 24th, 5.30pm.
Where: CHS nets
CHS fields a Girls XI as part of the Waikato Secondary School girls comp, played on a Tuesday afternoon.
If you would like to be part of this team, please come to the nets and to sign up whether you are new to the school or a returning player.
Important note: we encourage female players to be part of the Colts or Junior XI teams so if you would like to play Saturday cricket as well as or instead of the Tuesday comp, please let us know on the night.
SENIOR CRICKET MUSTER
When: Wednesday January 25th, 5.30pm
Where: CHS nets
CHS is fielding two teams in the Waikato Secondary School competition; the First XI and a Second XI. If you are Y11-13 please come down to the nets and sign up for the season.
Please bring your cricket gear so we can have a net session for all senior players. We are looking to select a new First XI squad for 2023 so will be looking for players keen to play in the First XI.
ANSWERS TO SOME OTHER QUESTIONS YOU WILL PROBABLY ASK:
If you cannot make the muster, please let us know! And if possible let us know what team your player would like to be considered for. Depending on numbers, we may need to hold another net session trial.
We are aiming to have teams and coaches confirmed on Tuesday January 31st. The first Saturday of competition is February 11th which gives the teams a week and a half to get together and practice before the start of the season. Practice times will be set by coaches.
Fees for the whole 2023 season - played across Term 1 and Term 4 - are set at $150 for the First XI and $100 for the other teams. These fees cover the cost of new match balls each week, our entry into the competitions and replacing worn equipment in gear bags.
Players are issued with a playing shirt and pants. Thanks to the generosity of Nathan and Kerry at Cambridge ITM, we have been able to provide brand new uniforms for all our teams. And they look awesome.
Yes, we are always looking for parents to help out in the teams. We have positions available for managing, scoring and coaching, and these will be worked out when we have teams confirmed for the season.
Thank you for reading this far, and thank you in advance for helping us arrange the teams with the customary short notice at this time of year.
If you have any questions at all, please get in touch with Chris who will field your questions on behalf of the CHS cricket committee.
