At our recent Batizado e Troca de Cordas in Wellington, we witnessed a beautiful game between Mestre Bira (Resistência) and Mutante (Abadá Auckland).

Vinicius Luiz , known in Capoeira as Mutante, made the long journey from Auckland to join us. Originally from Brazil and now based in New Zealand, he brought great energy, sharp movement, and a fantastic attitude to the event.

What makes Capoeira special is moments like these. Different groups, different backgrounds, different stories, all coming together inside the roda' to share knowledge, challenge each other, and celebrate the art we love.

This game was a great example of respect, experience, and connection through Capoeira. A conversation without words, where every movement tells part of the story.

Thank you, Mutante, for making the trip and sharing your axé with our community. It was a pleasure to have you with us, and we hope to see you again soon!

Another incredible guest confirmed for Axé na Ilha do Sul! 🔥

We are excited to announce that Contra Mestre Jamaicano is officially joining us this October in Marlborough!

A special friend of the Resistência family.
CM Jamaicano has been part of several of our events since moving to New Zealand from the United Kingdom with his family. Over the years, he has built a strong reputation as a dedicated Capoeirista, always bringing great energy, knowledge, and a unique perspective to every roda he joins.

A long-time student of Mestre Fantasma, Contra Mestre Jamaicano has spent many years immersed in Capoeira and continues to share his passion wherever he goes. Whether through movement, culture, music, or conversation, there's always something valuable to learn from him.

This year, he'll be sharing some of his knowledge of Capoeira Angola, offering participants a chance to explore another side of this beautiful art form and deepen their understanding of Capoeira's roots.

Professor Dendê has confirmed his participation at Axé na Ilha do Sul 2026 and his travel arrangements are already booked!

Originally from England, Professor Dendê has dedicated a lifetime to Capoeira before making New Zealand his home. Now based in Wellington, he is respected for his knowledge, technical ability, and unique teaching style.

His classes are always packed with valuable sequences and movement concepts that help Capoeiristas connect the dots, improve their understanding of the game, and develop both simple and complex movements with confidence.

Professor Dendê has plenty of tricks up his sleeve, and we are looking forward to welcoming him to Marlborough, where he will be sharing one of the workshops during the event.

Originally from Brazil and now based in New Zealand, Professor Marcelo has dedicated many years of his life to Capoeira. Known for his incredible fitness, discipline, energy, and passion for the art, he has become a respected leader within our Capoeira community.

Today, he leads the growing RESISTÊNCIA Hamilton group, where a strong and enthusiastic community of Capoeiristas continues to develop. Even better, some of his students will also be making the journey south to join us in Marlborough this October!

Professor Marcelo is one of those people who brings positive energy wherever he goes. Whether it's during training, in the roda, or sharing knowledge with others, his passion for Capoeira is contagious.

We can't wait to learn from him during his workshop at the Encontro.

If you've ever trained with Maré, you'll know exactly why we're excited. His classes are always energetic, technical, and full of valuable details that help students grow. He has a natural ability to identify weaknesses, share practical solutions, and encourage people to become a better version of themselves through Capoeira.

Earlier this year, Maré received his Professor grade during the Batizado e Troca de Cordas in Wellington. It was a truly special occasion, attended by Mestre Bira, Mestre Binho, and more than 50 Capoeiristas from around New Zealand and overseas. It was a memorable celebration of dedication, growth, and community.

One of the things that stands out most about Professor Maré is his genuine passion for teaching. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced Capoeirista, he is always willing to share knowledge, refine technique, and help others progress on their journey.

We are honoured to have him join us at Axé na Ilha do Sul and we can't wait to see what he brings to the event.

Flavio Sinbad has been one of the most important students of Mestre Bira since the very beginning of Grupo de Capoeira Resistência in New Zealand. Over the years, he has played a significant role in the growth and development of the group, inspiring generations of capoeiristas through his dedication, knowledge, and commitment to the art.

We are incredibly proud to announce the confirmed participation of Professora Andorinha (Doreen Blask) at Axé na Ilha do Sul 2026!

This year, Doreen reached an important milestone in her Capoeira journey, receiving her Professora corda at our most recent Batizado e Troca de Cordas in Wellington. It was a well deserved recognition of many years of dedication, commitment, and passion for Capoeira.

Originally from Europe, Doreen and her family found a place to call home in Wellington, where Capoeira has become a true family affair. Together with her husband and their two children, they have built a life deeply connected to the art, culture, and community.

Professora Andorinha is a well-rounded Capoeirista, known not only for her technical ability but also for her musical talent, leadership, and genuine passion for preserving and sharing Capoeira culture. Whether in the roda, leading songs, teaching, or supporting others on their journey, she brings energy, knowledge, and axé wherever she goes.

We are honoured to have her joining us in Marlborough and we can't wait to learn from her during her workshop at Axé na Ilha do Sul.
