Wednesday saw the conclusion of the Club’s Winter League competition. Huge thanks to Bill Taylor for running such an enjoyable and successful competition over the winter months.

In the women’s competition first place went to Nicole Logan, Wendy Trolove was second and Emily Stenhouse came in third.

On the men’s side Hamish Morrow came top for the third consecutive year (unprecedented!), Scott Wilkinson came in second and Chris Nott was third.

Special mention to Amon McGregor who was the most used reserve.

Congratulations to all the players who took part. The Club’s Nigel Perry Summer League begins on Thursday, 15th October. To register to be a full-time player or a reserve please email the office – [email protected]. First come first served! There are 48 places to fill.

A great afternoon at the MTC yesterday. Huge thanks to Bill and Taylor for organising our "US Open" themed event. Taylor sorted the food - a great success. The numbers were modest thanks to a few people dropping out at the last minute due to injury. However, those who played enjoyed the Yankee Tournament. Well done to Pavel for winning most games. Other prizes went to Karen for best dressed (she made her outfit!!!) and Hannah and Maria who were the runners up; Frank won the best dressed in the men's department with Hayden coming a close second. Kerie Smith deserves a mention. Unable to play because of an injury she arrived to watch as a hot dog. Love it! Lots of laughter and good tennis. Watch out for the Aussie Open - coming to the Club in January!

BUSINESS HOUSE TENNIS IS BACK! Generously sponsored by Ormond Nurseries.

Get a team together and play on Friday evenings from 23 October to 11 December. Two timed matches of 45 minutes. Doubles only. The emphasis is on Fun, Fellowship, Exercise and a B**r or a W**e afterwards. Enjoy the fabulous courts at the Marlborough Tennis Club (Pollard Park, off Parker St). It's the perfect way to finish the working week.

Only a limited number of teams so get in quick if you are keen to take part. Email Hilary at the MTC for an entry form and for more information - [email protected].

The competition is not intended for complete beginners or Marlborough's top Premier players.

Coming up on Saturday, 5th September will the third of the Marlborough Tennis Club's "Grand Slam" afternoons. This time it's the US Open! Our "French Open" and "Wimbledon" events were very successful and greatly enjoyed by members. Don't miss out, register today at [email protected]. Time: 2pm. Yankee Tournament, prizes for best dressed (US theme obviously!) and a prize for the fastest serve. Play will finish about 4pm and then it will be time for hot dogs and other New York fare the Club can dream up!

US Open in Marlborough

The spirit of Roland-Garros 🇫🇷🎾 arrived in Blenheim on Saturday afternoon as the Marlborough Tennis Club hosted a lively French-themed tennis afternoon against Renwick Tennis Club.

The event began at 2pm with players taking part in two rounds of 50-minute doubles matches, creating a full afternoon of competitive tennis, good food and plenty of laughter. In total, nine doubles matches were played, with Marlborough narrowly defeating Renwick by 133 games to 113.

With the French Tennis Open beginning next week, the clubhouse was transformed into a celebration of all things French. The French flag flew proudly while French love songs played throughout the afternoon, helping create a festive atmosphere both on and off the court.

Players and supporters enjoyed a selection of French-inspired food and refreshments including French onion soup, cheeses and French b**r. Special thanks went to Hilary Wilkie for providing the impressive cheese selection which proved very popular with everyone attending.

The afternoon also included a “Best French Dressed” competition which added plenty of colour and excitement to the occasion. Graham Boden won the men’s section, while Hannah Blakely-McWilliams and Karen Nichol
shared the honours for the women’s section. Emillion Redmond presented Stephen Dempster with the winning cup during the presentations.

The event highlighted the strong relationship between the two clubs and the social side of tennis that continues to make the sport so enjoyable in the Marlborough region. Players from both clubs agreed the afternoon was a tremendous success and a fitting way to celebrate the upcoming French Open.🇫🇷🎾
