Last night I had the absolute privilege of awarding a blue belt to Neil Swailes. For those who don’t know Neil, he’s a true legend of the martial arts community here in New Zealand. His name carries weight, not because of titles or accolades, but because of the way he’s lived his journey in martial arts.
It’s incredibly hard to come back to training after time away, yet Neil has done so with humility, perseverance, and a never-quit attitude. He embodies everything a martial artist should be: discipline, respect, resilience, courage, and the ability to lift others up around him.
Neil, your dedication is inspiring. You remind us all that this path is about much more than belts — it’s about character, growth, and spirit. We are so proud to have you on the mats with us, and grateful you’ve chosen to share your knowledge, energy, and presence here.
