Wednesday nights training was awesome . Shout out to Anton Fedorchenko from armbenders for coming n training with us also giving tips n pointers appreciate you. the team got in some great work then we did a under 100kgs king of the table and was 🔥🔥🔥 some upsets n great battles with Isi Nanovo Rolleston aka Mr Roofliss taking it out. THANK YOU – 2026 NEW ZEALAND NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

What an incredible weekend!

On Saturday, 6 June, we hosted the largest New Zealand National Armwrestling Championships in history, with over 210 entries across 20 classes. The level of competition, sportsmanship, and support on display made this an event to remember.

First and foremost, thank you to every athlete who stepped up to the table. Whether you stood on the podium or not, you helped make this championship something special. We also want to thank all the friends, family members, and supporters who travelled from around the country to be part of the day. We hope you enjoyed the event as much as we did.

The matches were nothing short of spectacular. We witnessed some incredible battles, major upsets, and history being made. For the first time ever, we celebrated three generations of medalists from the same family. Leading the trio was Tom Skinner, at 65 years young. His nickname says it all – "Legend." Joining him were his son, Korry Skinner, and granddaughter, Aria Skinner, creating a special piece of New Zealand armwrestling history.

A huge thank you goes to our 12 referees. Your professionalism and dedication were outstanding. At times we had to force you to take breaks because of your commitment to keeping the event running smoothly. The sport is fortunate to have officials of your calibre.

To our MCs, Matthew and Zvi, thank you for bringing the energy all day long. Your commentary, announcements, and ability to engage the crowd helped create an unforgettable atmosphere.

Thank you also to our four scorers, whose hard work behind the scenes ensured the event ran efficiently and accurately.

To our backbone crew – the volunteers who helped with setup, breakdown, cleaning, and everything in between – you truly are the backbone of New Zealand armwrestling. Without you, we'd be running in circles. Your efforts do not go unnoticed.

A massive shoutout to the Savage Stallion Arm wrestling Club for running the kitchen throughout the event. Thank you for keeping everyone fed and fuelled for competition.

Special thanks to Woolworths Whakatane for sponsoring the food sold through the kitchen. Every dollar of profit raised will be reinvested into the armwrestling community to grow the sport and support the New Zealand Armwrestling Federation's national team as they prepare to represent New Zealand in Japan.

Finally, thank you to our President, Anton Van Der Westhuizen. First man in, last man out. The countless hours of planning, organising, and commitment behind the scenes are a huge part of why this event was such a success. Thank you for everything you do for the sport.

The 2026 Nationals have set a new benchmark for New Zealand armwrestling. The future of our sport has never looked brighter.

Powerful club here they show up strong and ready for battle always keep up the great work fam

What an incredible weekend at New Zealand Nationals! It was awesome to see so many people compete and give it their all. We are extremely proud of each club, each competitor and seeing some incredible battles on the table.

Podium placings within our club include:
Paiterangi: 1st left arm -80kg youth
Jesse: 2nd right arm 80kg youth
Kaelim: 3rd right arm -80kg men
Jack: 3rd right arm -90kg men
Ashleigh: 1st place left and right arm- Open women’s

We also want to make a few special mentions to:

-Tre who came back after a health scare a few months ago. It was awesome to see you back on the table and are proud of the hard work you put in.

-Tyrese who switched over from Powerlifting to Arm Wrestling at the end of last year and competed in his first Nationals against the best in the country. He placed 5th in the open men’s category which is an incredible achievement.

-Wesley who came up to support the club and helping with everything in the background. Checking in on everyone to throughout the day and cheering everyone on.

-Awesome to see Zvi again who was on MC duties throughout the entire day! An OG to our club who has constantly supported from afar over the years!

-And to the founder and coach Maateiwarangi, thank you for helping is all prepare for this. For your support and constant advice and guidance.

We have some big plans in the works coming up for our club over the next 6 months and cannot wait to share these with you all.
