Our two junior stars performing well at the NZ Junior Championships.

Yila participated in the U17 Girls NZ Junior Championships this weekend held in Henderson. She started 5th and ended 4th.
Zalt also U17 started 25th and ended 23rd.

Yila is also in the Auckland junior girls district team. So far they have won the Central and Wellington districts (no losses). Tomorrow they play Bay of Plenty.

Dear Members,

I am delighted to share some exciting news for our club.

Devonport Squash Club has been selected as one of the host venues for the 2028 World Squash Championships in Auckland, which will bring some of the world's leading clubs and players to our courts

The announcement was made yesterday at the official launch of the 2028 World Squash Championships. The Championships will be centred around a glass show court at the New Zealand International Convention Centre in the SkyCity precinct, creating a world-class stage for squash in the heart of Auckland. The tournament will be the largest squash event ever held in New Zealand and will run alongside the inaugural World Club Championships, with matches hosted across Auckland clubs, including Devonport. With squash also making its Olympic debut at the Los Angeles Games that same year, 2028 promises to be a huge year for squash.


Paul Cornish and I attended the launch on behalf of the club and came away with a real sense of excitement about the opportunities this event will bring. The launch reflected the tremendous effort that has gone into securing the Championships for Auckland, along with the strong support behind the event. Representatives from local/central government and leaders from across the squash community were all in attendance.


Being chosen as a host club is a reflection of the efforts and support by our members and committee over many years. It is an achievement that all members, past and present should be proud of.

Planning for 2028 is already underway. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our members to be involved in a truly world-class squash event. Over the coming months, we will be looking for volunteers and supporters to help in a variety of ways, and I encourage anyone interested to take the opportunity to be part of what promises to be a memorable experience.
