Hot off the press: "Fleet racing. Sail those boats once around Rangitoto and finish under the harbour bridge" Sounds like the perfect opportunity for the King of the Waitemata to expand.

Blue skies and a 25 knot southerly were the order of the day for the first King of the Waitemata, a wind powered race around Ranitoto and Mototapu Islands. The fleet was dominated by Kite Foils with 3 Skiffs joining the fray, to win the title and try to beat the one hour race time.
Matt Taggart won the race, and did it in 58 minutes and 42 seconds, the only competitor to so. Sam Bullock closed the gap in the upwind slog to the finish line at Bean Rock, taking second place in a time of 64 minutes and 25 seconds. Both are now planning how to get the time under 50 minutes in 2018.
