Anxiety doesn’t always come from what’s happening now. A lot of the time, it’s your system responding based on what it’s learned to expect. Your past experiences, patterns, repeated situations — they shape how your system anticipates things before they even happen.
So even if something seems small or manageable on the surface, your response can feel bigger than it “should”.
Not because you’re overreacting, but because your system is trying to stay prepared. It’s already predicting what might go wrong, what could happen, how it needs to respond.
And that creates a constant underlying tension. The overthinking, tightness or the feeling of being on edge. It can feel confusing, especially when you can’t always link it to what’s in front of you. But it’s not random, it’s patterned.
And when you start working with what’s underneath those patterns — rather than just trying to manage the symptoms — things can begin to shift in a way that actually lasts.
