The Auckland Branch of the Antique Arms and Historical Association was pleased to host Nicole McKee for a very interesting Saturday visiting several private fi****ms collections across Auckland.
It was a valuable opportunity to showcase not only some remarkable and historically significant collections, but also the people behind them and the passion, knowledge and commitment they bring to preserving New Zealand’s fi****ms history.
What stood out throughout the day was the extraordinary depth of knowledge held by these collectors and the significant historical value contained within their collections. Many of the fi****ms viewed were rare, highly specialised or representative of important periods in military and technological history.
The visits also provided a firsthand look at the significant investment collectors make in the safe storage and security of their collections. At every collection visited, substantial measures had been put in place,In some cases, collectors have invested tens of thousands of dollar’s in security.
These are collectors who take their responsibilities, their collections and public safety extremely seriously.
For the Auckland Branch, opportunities such as this are important in helping decision-makers better understand responsible collecting, the historical value of fi****ms, and the practical realities faced by collectors.
