Warriors review (1/3 of the season).

The warriors have now achieved 7 wins out of their last 9 games. Only dropping two games, one home to the wests tigers and the other away in Cronulla, to the sharks. Only dropping two games this season so far, and having two three game win streaks this season leading into the eels game, the warriors have been right up there with consistency, form, effort and efficiency. Jackson ford has been an absolute powerhouse for the warriors this season and has proved to be an absolute leader on the field. I’d be surprised to see if he doesn’t get the blues jersey. Erin Clark has been phenomenal, my favourite warriors player and an absolute weapon. Metres gained, try assists and the way he impacts his team players, on and off the field has been noticed. I am a massive fan and the forwards have been really killing it under fish, ford and Clark. The fish has really showed leadership this season and has become more flexible in his role too. The boys have really stepped up when they’ve needed to.

Ever since the Storm game, the warriors have showed glimpses of hope that year 2026, could be something. The backs and halves have been great too and have achieved highly so far. DWZ has proven himself so far and really has worked on his role of late, his defence is still something to Improve on though, but there have been big moments where he has stepped up. I am really impressed with AKP - winger the warriors received from the titans. He has scored nearly in all games he has played for the warriors this season and has real speed, something the warriors have struggled for a long time.

I really love the warriors halves combination and am really impressed with how Boyd and CHT are running the ship in the right direction. I love CHT work ethic and his defence is only getting stronger. With Boyd he is proving week in and week out that he is the first choice number 7. I’m still not yet sold on Metcalf, but we’ll see there.

Overall beating Raiders, Roosters, Titans and dolphins at home and losing only to the tigers, the warriors home fortress has been hard to tackle for opposing teams. That is 4/5 games at home that the warriors have one. With their away record the warriors have lost only to the sharks, but they have won against the knights , Storm and eels (3/4) games won away.

So overall in summary, the warriors have beaten three teams from 2025 top 8 teams in the first 9 weeks. That’s three teams out of their 9 games this season.

* Storm (grand finalist 2025).
* Raiders (minor premiers 2025).
* Roosters (top 8 2025).

The other four teams they have beaten this year include:

* Titans (16th 2025).
* Dolphins (9th 2025).
* Eels (11th 2025).
* Knights (wooden spoon 2025).

Warriors vs Dolphins - Anzac Round 8, 2026.

What a game!! Great defensively in the second half and had me on the edge of my seat entirely for the whole 55 minutes that we kept them scoreless. A few niggles in our attack and defence in the first half and some missed opportunities with chances gone begging in the first half, but the warriors fought hard and with share determination, they won 20-18 in Wellington on Anzac Day. This wraps up another three games in a row for the warriors, the second lot of the season, since they started the opening rounds on a three game win streak (Roosters, Raiders and Knights), then lost to the tigers and sharks and now have gone on a mini three game win streak against the Storm (curse broken, finally woo hoo!!), titans and dolphins. They face the eels this coming Saturday, that have been struggling with recent form, but the eels will be a desperate side as they cannot face to keep sliding to the near bottom of the ladder.

The warriors will need to play hard, fast, gritty and be a lot more clinical on attack against the eels, as the eels have proven to not be taken lightly and can race out on attack early as well as late in the game. If the warriors can hold the dolphins like they did defensively for the majority of last weeks game, and be within reach of beating Penrith, then the warriors have a good shot at going 4 straight this weekend.

Standout players for me were Taine Tuapiki, Jackson ford and Erin Clark for the game against the dolphins.

Warriors recap - Storm and titans games

Wow what a turnaround. What a period of the last fortnight. The warriors absolutely turned up against the Melbourne Storm (who are now winless in five games) a couple of weeks ago, and pumped the Titans in the first half, then only just managed to beat them in the second half, due to a 22-0 halftime score on Saturday. The warriors have had a really positive start to their season and have been showing wins through their halves combination (CHT and Boyd). Without Metcalf the warriors are 5/7. That’s a phenomenal stat and start to the season. Maybe some fans will say rushing Metcalf back into the lineup was too early, or having some time on the bench and coming in as an impact player with 20 minutes to go, would be the ideal way, but since he’s had a recent injury, we won’t know about that until he’s fit and fully ready to play again. I am a firm believer that the success over the last 7 weeks and to remain the only top 4 side this season, compared to last season (2025), is very remarkable. None of the teams that were in the top 4 after the first 7 weeks of the 2025 season are in the top four this year, and it just goes to show the depth, consistency and also how tough the competition has gotten. I still believe the underdog story as well, as we are seeing two underdog teams in the top 4 (tigers and warriors), staying strong between 2nd and 3rd spot at the moment. These two sides face off again later in the season for their second head to head in Sydney and where the warriors first loss of the season at home came to a blip in their performance, followed by the next weeks demolition by the sharks. Since then, the warriors broke the curse in Melbourne. An 11 year curse that was heartbreaking each year to suffer at the jaws of defeat each and every year, to hold onto hope that if we can beat Melbourne, we may have a shot. This is the first season where I have seen Melbourne Storm struggle in the 15 years that I have been following this beautiful game. The warriors absolutely 💯 made my week as well as making my year too so far. To break the curse and what’s better also, is how they played in style and each and every player played their part. The Storm were absolutely sloppy, no direction and took the warriors way too lightly. It was like the game was already in the bag for them. I guess the same could be said for the next game the warriors faced (which was the titans).

The warriors recent home game against the Gold Coast Titans had fans circling. Fans were like this game was already in the bag, probably a bit like the mindset of some of the players going into the game too. As we saw over the weekend, being up 22-0 at halftime meant squat. Yes it was a great lead but my word, allowing 20 points in the second half, they were just fortunate that the damage was done in the first half, all thanks to the masterclass performance from AKP and DWZ and our halves (Boyd and CHT). Erin Clark’s try in the second half though, was the nail in the coffin for the titans, as with 27 minutes to go, the titans had to claw back the halftime score of 22-0 (yet was 28-4, due to an early titans try, a missed conversion, then a try from Erin Clark in the 53rd minute). With 27 minutes to play, the titans played out of their minds, like one of the game commentators said, if there was another ten minutes to play, the warriors may of lost that game. That’s how good the titans were in the second half, they were ultimately matching that intensity that the warriors gave in the first half. They really do say that rugby is a game of two halves, although the warriors unfortunately only really played one and they ultimately escaped Scot free with a close win. I feel that the warriors were tired from their win over the Storm and only gave out 50 minutes of energy of the game. What bothers me the most about the titans game was that, even being up for majority of the game, taking the foot off the pedal, if it had been any earlier in the second half, could’ve proved costly and the game this week against the dolphins in Wellington, you cannot take the foot off the gas. Their golden point (1pt) loss to the panthers at home, just proved to the warriors fan base and club, that they can compete with the big teams. With a home game against them this week, it’ll be so vital to get a crucial win, but a good win, one that makes a mark as well as for statistics, gives the warriors something to have positive momentum towards meeting the panthers later this season as well as the broncos (defending champions) twice this season.

All in all, proud warriors fan at the moment. Bring on the dolphins. 💚❤️💙

Warriors vs sharks recap - Rd 5

Absolute shocker of two weeks from the warriors. What’s going on?

Why change a winning formula? Honestly my head scratched so much throughout the last two weeks and especially the performance that wasn’t even a performance, it was a shambles last night against the sharks.

The warriors struggled immensely to find any momentum, they were shut down, purely outclassed, outmuscled and just dominated on all fronts. Where was the speed, where was the power and holy hecka, where was the MANA? None of these were present at all throughout last evenings absolute chaos.

Webster what the hell are you thinking taking Erin Clark off after 39 minutes of play and then putting him on for the last ten minutes of the second half. You take off one of our most dominant forwards as well as James Fischer Harris. My lord, I mean you have to use your interchanges but taking them off both for a period of time, costed us immensely in the forwards. Having to rely on Jackson ford to do the hard yards, and our bench boys, that were absolute subpar. I still have my doubts starting Jacob Laban, but anyways we have to use what we have.

The halves combination is a f…k…g joke, honestly Metcalf is just pure s**t at the moment, bring back CHT, he can tackle, kick and actually plays with pride, and Metcalf gives me glimpses of the old Shaun Johnson (to which he was an icon, but he did have shockers and was a liability at times). I do like Metcalf, but rushing him back early has proved to be very costly and Tanah Boyd seems rattled and off the pace and just not himself the last two games. Whatever was working the first three weeks ago, the warriors need to go back to that and very quickly. With saying that, they are fully capable of making things work within time, and with the Melbourne Storm game this Saturday night, breaking the curse will be immensely tough, but possible this season. If the Warriors turn up like they did the first three weeks, and Webster fixes the halves combination as well as the edges quickly, the warriors could upset.

I’m glad I tipped the sharks, as it was a win/win situation for me and I had seen the recent games the sharks had played. The sharks attack was clinical, with pace and power and they really did hold the warriors at bay for majority of the game. Their backs were outstanding off line breaks, and the warriors slipped so many tackles through and the edges are very poor at the moment, including our centres.

I’m sorry to say it, RTS you must step up, same as a few other players, but last two weeks you have costed us immensely to say the least, there were other players too but yeah RTS I felt just checked out for the last two weeks. Let’s hope we get to see him in full spirits this week.

The next man up approach went missing this game, and it worked so well first three rounds, if the warriors get back to thot mentality, it’ll have to be very quick. Be interesting to see who Webster picks for this week’s game, here’s hoping the curse is broken this Saturday night. Up the warriors till the end 💚❤️

Wow what a result from the Tigers last week. Beating the warriors comfortably on their home turf (32-14). It wasn’t a good turn up for the warriors that welcomed back Luke Metcalf for the first time since his season ending injury in 2024. The warriors were on top for the better half of 15 minutes in the first half, but couldn’t hold the tigers at bay for the remainder of the game. The tigers were absolutely defensive units and capitalised on every mistake the warriors made and were absolutely clinical on their attack. Adam Douhie was a leader for the team and the forwards really dominated the warriors all game. A worrying sign for warriors this game was hearing Mitch Barnett out for six weeks minimum after the game and scans confirmed his injury. Big loss as well as Kurt Capewell still not yet back from injury.

With the warriors facing the sharks this week, it’ll be a tough battle where the forwards will need to dominate upfront. Jackson ford has been great the past month, Erin Clark has stepped up, the fish needs to do more across the park and are wingers need to defensively work harder to not let gaps in the line so our fullback is exposed. Andrew Webster changed a winning formula that has worked the first three weeks, and we saw a blip in performance last Friday night and maybe the return of Metcalf is still too early, but the boys face sharks this Sunday (Easter Sunday).

Shifting to this weeks game, after penriths hot start (5-0) and smashing the Melbourne Storm (50-10) on Good Friday, the warriors face the Storm after the sharks which will be an even tougher battle than the sharks they face this Sunday. The warriors have to get through and focus on recorrecting some of the problems they incurred against the tigers in round four and play deep and focused like they did in the first three rounds, to generate mobility, confidence, chemistry and grunt to take down the sharks this Sunday and then break the curse in Melbourne against the Storm.

It all comes down to the halves pairing, how well tuapiki at fullback plays, whether our centres can not let gaps in as well as our wingers, and finally it’ll be dominated ultimately in the forwards too. Sharks and Storm are two tough opponents for the next two weeks, let’s take one game at a time.
