Ellerslie Eagles Rugby League Football Club

Ellerslie Eagles Rugby League Football Club Official page of the Ellerslie Eagles Rugby League Football Club est. 1912 George Dragons 10-11 in 1959.

The club was formed as the Ellerslie Wanderers at a meeting in April 1912 at the Ellerslie Hotel. However with the outbreak of World War I in 1914 the club went into temporary recess for four years. The club was reestablished on 26 July 1919 as the Ellerslie United Rugby League Club. With its reestablishment, the club adopted the Red, Blue and White colours that it still currently uses. In 1931, a

t request of the Auckland Rugby League, an amalgamation of the Ellerslie, Otahuhu and Mangere clubs took place, but all plans of this merger were abandoned before the year ended. The club had a golden period in the 1950s, claiming the 1955 Roope Rooster and Stormont Shield, the 1956 Roope Rooster, the 1957 Fox Memorial and Rukutai Shield and the 1959 Roope Rooster and Stormont Shield. The club also played against three clubs from the New South Wales Rugby League premiership, losing to the Balmain Tigers 35-7 in 1956, defeating the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles 16-15 in 1958 and losing to the St. During the 1960s the Auckland Rugby League instituted a districts programme and Ellerslie, City Newton and Eastern Suburbs combined to form Eastern Districts. The combination won almost every trophy between 1960 and 1963 before the clubs regained their separate identities. In 1968 the Pakuranga club was formed as a feeder club to Ellerslie. Former New Zealand Kiwis representative Maurie Robertson was appointed as coach in 1970. The club officially adopted the Eagles name in 1971. During the 1980s the club bounced between the first and second divisions, with Sharman Cup (second division) wins in 1981 and 1986. They again lifted the Sharman Cup in 1991 and 1992. The club was affiliated to the Auckland City Vulcans during the 1994 Lion Red Cup and joined the Eastern Tornadoes side with the advent of the Bartercard Cup in 2000. In 2004 the club left the Tornadoes to become part of the Otahuhu-Ellerslie Leopards side in the Bartercard Cup. The club celebrated its centenary on Queen's Birthday weekend 2012

🏆 A MOMENT OF HUGE PRIDE FOR THE EAGLES NEST 🏆

While we were proudly hosting our Internationals Prizegiving on Saturday night, our Premier coaches and captains represented our club at the ARL Awards Night at Alexandra Park Racecourse.

The ARL Awards recognise the most elite Premier players across the Auckland Rugby League competition and we couldn’t be prouder of what was achieved by one of our own ❤️🤍💙

Congratulations Samuel Hansen.

Samuel was named ARL Phelan Shield Premiership Club Player of the Year before taking out the incredible honour of ARL Phelan Shield Premiership Overall Player of the Year 👑🏆

This recognition is so deserving of someone who has played such an important role in our Premier journey and in helping build something special at the Eagles Nest.

Samuel’s commitment, leadership, hard work and belief in this club have made a huge impact both on and off the field. He represents what it means to wear the Eagles jersey with pride.

Samuel, we are incredibly proud of you and everything you have contributed to our club.
From helping rebuild our Premier side to now being recognised as the best Phelan Shield Premier player in the Auckland Rugby League competition — what an achievement!

When one of us rises, we all rise 🦅❤️🤍💙

Proud of your legacy and wishing you all the best on the next, Viggo ❤️🤍💙
Its truly special, being able to watch the extraordinary people who once walked their journey through our club as Junior players, do big things on big stages. 🙌

How lucky are we to have one of our very own Eller Juniors, who just finished having their captains run, pop in by chance, during our International Prizegiving 🦅

Asu, thank you so much for taking the time to come up and see us! Your presence kicked the night off on a high note and your presents have gone home with some very grateful (and talented 👀 IYKYK) Eller whānau 🙏

All the best for your game tomorrow our boy! ❤️🤍💙

🦅 ONE LAST ROUND FOR 2026! ❤️🤍💙

And just like that… we’ve reached the final round of club footy for the 2026 season. 🥹

It’s always a little bittersweet when we get to this point. After months of trainings, early Saturday mornings, muddy boots, sideline cheers, wins, losses, laughs and memories made together, we’re definitely not ready to see the season come to an end! 😭🏉

To ALL of our Ellerslie Eagles teams taking the field for their final round this weekend — we wish you the very best! Go out there, enjoy every minute, play for each other and wear that Eagles jersey with pride. 🦅

To our players, coaches, managers, volunteers, parents, whānau and supporters — thank you for another incredible season. Our little club simply wouldn’t be what it is without the people who turn up week after week and give so much of themselves. 🙏

So for one last Saturday of regular club footy in 2026…

Cheer a little louder.
Run a little harder.
Smile a little bigger.
And soak up every moment. 🥹

Because before we know it, we’ll all be counting down the days until we can do it all over again!

Fly high, Eagles! 🦅❤️🤍💙

Our Ellerslie Eagles Under 10 Blue and Red Teams would like to say a huge thank you to Tim's Affordable Lawn Care for sponsoring them, for a second year in a row!

As you will have noticed, we have been blessed to receive brand-new doors at our clubrooms — a fantastic upgrade to our Nest and one that wouldn’t have been possible without some incredible support.

A huge thank you to Complex Facade NZ, who were contracted to fit and install our new doors. What makes this upgrade even more special is that amongst their team were former Ellerslie Juniors, Pheydon and Trent, who returned to the Nest and played a part in installing them. 🦅

There’s something pretty special about seeing people who once came through our doors to play through their junior grades, come back years later, using their skills and trades to contribute to the club in a way that quite literally, keeps our doors open for future generations to come. Once an Eagle, always an Eagle! ❤️🤍💙

We also want to acknowledge and sincerely thank the ARL Legacy Fund, whose generous funding made these new doors possible. Support like this allows grassroots clubs like ours to continue improving our facilities and creating a clubroom our members, players, whānau and future generations of Eagles can be proud of.

These might just look like new doors — but to us, they represent investment in our club, connection to our past, and another step forward for our future.

Thank you to everyone involved in making it happen! 🙏

🦅 Together, we soar higher 🦅
