Cuba is the home to many of the world's most famous Latin dances, including Salsa, Rumba, Mambo and Cha-Cha. Dancing is a hugely important part of the culture and way of lif

e for most Cubans, so there is plenty of variety in the music and endless ways to express yourself through the dance. We teach Cuban dance with the same spirit, focussing on technique, musicality, grace, connection, leading and following but, especially, on the happiness of the dance and the energy the dancers create, which is where the magic happens. We want our students to walk away feeling uplifted. This is the essence of Cuban dance – the feeling and connection to the music. THE TEACHER
Vivio is the most accomplished and experienced male Cuban dancer in New Zealand, offering more than 40 years knowledge and experience. Born in Cuba, from the age of 11, Vivio trained at the acclaimed National School of Arts in Habana before touring the world with various prestigious dance companies, performing in 100s of shows. Since arriving in Aotearoa in 2002 and setting up The Cuban Groove, Vivio has taught 1,000s of students, performed in high-profile events, judged national salsa competitions, appeared in television and film, and brought his sense of fun and positive energy to countless festivals and parties around the country.
