We’re honoured to have received a certificate of appreciation from Sailability Auckland for supporting the Burnsco 2026 SKUD 18 International Match Race Challenge 🏆⛵

Held on Auckland’s Waitematā Harbour, the world-first event brought together disabled and able-bodied sailors from New Zealand, Australia and the United States for three days of high-level match racing.

The event showcased the incredible skill and determination of adaptive sailors and supported the international campaign to have sailing reinstated at the Paralympic Games for Brisbane 2032.

We’re proud to have played a small part in supporting Sailability Auckland and helping create more opportunities for people of all abilities to experience the freedom and joy of being on the water.

Congratulations to Sailability Auckland, the athletes, volunteers, sponsors and everyone who helped make this inspiring event happen! 👏

🏆 We’re finalists… again!

We’re thrilled to share that Silo Marina has been named a finalist in the NZ Marina Operators Association (NZMOA) Awards – Marina of the Year category.

This recognition reflects the continued work of our team to deliver an exceptional superyacht marina experience, from our operational capability and customer service to infrastructure, sustainability and our contribution to Auckland’s marine and visitor economy.

It’s also a fantastic result for the wider Auckland Council marinas team, following Westhaven Marina being named a finalist in the Outstanding Initiative category earlier this week.

We’re incredibly proud of our team and grateful to the NZMOA for recognising our work.

Congratulations to all the finalists! We look forward to celebrating the winners at the NZMOA Awards Dinner on 24 September! 🤞

🏆 We’re finalists!

We’re thrilled to share that Westhaven Marina has been named a finalist in the NZ Marina Operators Association (NZMOA) Awards – Outstanding Initiative (Full Member) category.

Our entry recognises the work undertaken across Auckland Council's three marinas – Westhaven, Auckland Central and Silo marinas – over the past two years to transform our long-running cadetship programme into a structured capability development programme.

With clear learning pathways, formal training, rotational placements and dedicated mentoring, the programme is helping develop highly capable, multi-skilled marina professionals – strengthening our people, our operations and the experience we provide our customers.

We’re incredibly proud of the programme and the time, knowledge and experience our team invest in developing the next generation of marina professionals.

Congratulations to all the finalists, and thank you to the New Zealand Marina Operators Association for the recognition.

The winner will be announced at the NZMOA Awards Dinner on 24 September! 🤞

🇳🇿🤝🇯🇵 Welcoming our friends from Fukuoka City!

We were delighted to welcome a delegation from Auckland’s sister city, Fukuoka City in Japan, to Westhaven Marina, Auckland Central Marina and Silo Marina recently.

During their visit, the delegation explored our marina operations and facilities, as well as the role our marinas play in creating and supporting public spaces, encouraging waterfront activity, and working alongside our yacht clubs and boating communities.

The delegation also experienced the unique role each marina plays within Auckland’s waterfront. From Westhaven Marina’s connection to the city’s recreational boating community, to Auckland Central Marina’s integration with the heart of the city, and Silo Marina’s role in supporting Auckland’s superyacht sector, each marina contributes to the vibrancy and diversity of our waterfront.

The team from Fukuoka City shared their appreciation for the passion Aucklanders have for their marinas and how these spaces have become places to be cherished and enjoyed by many.

We’re proud to share Auckland’s marina story and look forward to continuing the exchange of ideas and experiences with our friends in Fukuoka as we both look to the future of our waterfronts.

Thank you to the Fukuoka City delegation for visiting and for the opportunity to strengthen the connection between our two cities.

🚧 The countdown is on! 🚧

The Transpower cable repair works on Westhaven Drive are on track to finish by 16 August – so just a few more days until the road closure is expected to come to an end! 🙌

Until then, the section between the car park entrances adjacent to R and Z piers remains closed to through traffic. Access to the marina remains available via the temporary detours.

A big thank you to our customers and visitors for your patience and understanding while these works have been underway.

We’re looking forward to seeing Westhaven Drive back to normal soon!

🌊 New partnership with SeaKeepers South Pacific

Westhaven Marina, Silo Marina and Auckland Central Marina are proud to announce a new partnership with SeaKeepers South Pacific – connecting our boating communities with opportunities to support marine research, conservation and education initiatives.

As part of Auckland’s boating community, we’re fortunate to enjoy some of New Zealand’s most incredible marine environments. Through this partnership, our customers and visiting vessels will have the opportunity to get involved in voluntary marine science and conservation activities that help protect the waters we all enjoy.

SeaKeepers works alongside boat owners, crew, scientists, educators and conservation groups to support initiatives including citizen science projects, educational programmes and marine research.

We’ll be sharing opportunities throughout the year for our marina communities to get involved and play a role in better understanding and protecting our marine environment.

We look forward to working with SeaKeepers South Pacific and our marina communities to help grow ocean stewardship across Auckland’s boating community.

🌊 A young sailor’s perspective on Westhaven, Auckland Central and Silo marinas

Last month, we had the pleasure of hosting Tamaki Ogasawara, an 18-year-old student researcher from Japan, as part of his Tobitate! Ryugaku JAPAN scholarship.

During his visit, Tamaki spent time immersed in marina life across our sites – observing operations, meeting staff and berth holders, and experiencing Auckland’s boating culture firsthand.

One of the things that stood out most to him was how active the marinas are on and off the water:

“I was surprised to see dedicated berths for charter operators and boat dealers. It made the marina feel like a very active commercial hub.”

He was also struck by the hands-on role of marina staff:

“The most interesting thing was seeing how often dockmasters are out on the water… and how they maintain such a friendly, helpful relationship with customers.”

A highlight of his visit was assisting with a vessel berthing at Silo Marina – a moment he said made him feel part of the crew.

Now back in Japan, Tamaki is taking these insights home to help inspire the next generation of sailors.
