8 Reasons why you should give a 💩 about improving your roots.
When it comes to Grass, we rely on it heavily to feed our horses. It’s their main source of food and it is what is most healthy for their systems to digest, Especially when we get it right.
Getting grass healthy so our horses can be healthy should be our most important goal.
What’s happening below the ground determines everything happening above the ground.
Strong roots allow grass plants to:
🌱 Access water deeper in the soil during dry periods
🌱 Recover faster after grazing
🌱 Take up nutrients more efficiently
🌱 Grow thicker and more consistently
🌱 Create a denser pasture that leaves less room for weeds
🌱 Improve soil structure and reduce muddy, compacted paddocks in winter ❄️
🌱 Build resilience so your paddocks keep producing instead of burning out
🌱 Keep the good grazers you love from leaving because they arn’t paying for grazing & spending hundreds each week to keep the condition on their horse too!
When roots are weak, grass struggles to regrow leaving more sugar in the grass for horses to consume, horses become “grass effected”. The pasture becomes thin, horses graze the plants too low making it hard for the grass to recover. Bare patches appear, weeds move in, and, suddenly you’re relying on more baleage & supplementary feed.
It’s an easy fix really, your pocket will thank you for as its cheaper than constant hard feed and grain to supplement the grass that isn’t enough - your horses will thank you. And, you’re doing good by the Soil 💖
