πŸ“πŸ”₯ THE DRAWS ARE LIVE! πŸ”₯πŸ“

The knockout draws for the 2026 Auckland Junior Open have now been published.

For some players, this will be their first major junior tournament.

For others, it’s another opportunity to test themselves against Auckland’s best.

Now the waiting is over.

The names are on the draw.
The opponents are known.
The challenge is set.

Every player will have a chance to discover something about themselves on Sunday:
πŸ’ͺ How they handle pressure
πŸ“ How they respond to setbacks
πŸ”₯ How they compete when the stakes are real

Because tournaments aren't just about winning.

They're about learning to perform when it matters.

πŸ“πŸ§  Most table tennis players lose the match before it even starts

It's in your head.

Before a tournament, some players convince themselves of things that haven't happened yet:

❌ "What if I lose first round?"
❌ "What if everyone is better than me?"
❌ "What if I play terribly?"
❌ "What if I let people down?"

It's called catastrophizing.

Assuming the worst possible outcome is likely.

And here's the strange thing...

Most players suffer far more from the fear of competing than the competition itself.

They spend days worrying.

Then the match starts.

And none of those imagined disasters matter anymore.

Because suddenly the only thing that exists is:

πŸ“ The next serve.
πŸ“ The next rally.
πŸ“ The next point.

The players who improve fastest aren't the ones who never feel nervous.

They're the ones who stop treating nerves as a warning sign.

They treat them as proof that they care.

Every strong player has felt fear.

Every champion has doubted themselves.

The difference is they stepped onto the court anyway.

And that's why table tennis is about so much more than winning and losing.

It's training for life.

Because every time you compete, you prove something important:

πŸ’ͺ You can handle pressure.
🧠 You can handle uncertainty.
⚑ You can handle challenges.

Most people spend their lives imagining worst-case scenarios.

Table tennis players learn to face reality instead.

And reality is usually far less scary than the story in your head.

Have you ever talked yourself into believing a match would be a disaster... only to find it wasn't? πŸ‘‡

Creating Opportunities through Table Tennis πŸ“

One of the great outcomes of the Tables in Communities programme is seeing schools embrace table tennis as part of everyday school life.

At Our Lady Star of the Sea School, students have been making the most of their table tennis table during break times, creating new opportunities for physical activity, friendship, and fun.

It has been encouraging to see students of all abilities getting involved, learning new skills, and enjoying the game together.

Our recent activation session at the school highlighted just how accessible table tennis can be, with students showing enthusiasm, teamwork, and a willingness to challenge themselves in a positive environment.

A big thank you to Karen Noble-Campbell, the staff, and the students of Our Lady Star of the Sea School for their support and enthusiasm.

We look forward to seeing table tennis continue to grow within the school community.

Thank you also to Sport Auckland and the Tu Manawa Fund for supporting initiatives that help young people across Auckland become more active through sport.

πŸ“βš–οΈ How I Lost Weight Without Ever Thinking About Weight Loss

When I was younger, I was always in shape, never worried about what I was eating.

Then life happened.

I missed a training session here and there.

Work got busy.

Family commitments grew.

Slowly at first...

Then all at once...

I wasn't playing table tennis anymore.

The pounds started creeping on.

My energy dropped.

I wasn't feeling as good as I used to.

Then one day I felt a twinge in my back just walking up the stairs.

That was the warning.

Something had to change.

So I came back to table tennis.

And something interesting happened.

I didn't obsess over calories.

I didn't follow a complicated fitness programme.

I didn't spend hours on a treadmill.

I just started playing again.

The weight started coming off.

The back pain disappeared.

My fitness improved.

And perhaps most importantly...

I became happier.

Here's what I've learned:

Most people approach weight loss backwards.

They focus on losing weight.

Smart people focus on finding an activity they genuinely enjoy and can do consistently.

The weight loss becomes a by-product.

That's why table tennis is different.

While many people force themselves through exercise they hate...

Table tennis players are:
πŸ“ moving without thinking about it
πŸ“ exercising while having fun
πŸ“ challenging both body and mind
πŸ“ building habits they can sustain for years

It's one of the smartest health decisions you can make.

Because the best exercise programme isn't the perfect one.

It's the one you'll actually keep doing.

Every table tennis player knows this feeling.

You come for a game.

You leave feeling better.

Physically.

Mentally.

Emotionally.

πŸ“ The weight loss is great.

But the real win is getting your health, energy, and enjoyment of life back.

πŸ“πŸ”₯ East Auckland Primary & Intermediate Team Competition Nearing Its Conclusion! πŸ”₯πŸ“

It was fantastic to see players in action on Wednesday 3 June 2026 as the 2026 East Auckland Primary & Intermediate Team Competition (Term 2) approaches its final rounds.

This Term, 20 teams from 6 schools have competed at Pakuranga Community Hall, showcasing great sportsmanship, teamwork, and plenty of exciting table tennis throughout the competition πŸ‘

The team format sees players competing in:
πŸ“ 6 singles matches
πŸ“ 1 doubles match

This structure not only develops individual skills but also encourages teamwork, communication, and supporting teammates under pressure.

A special shoutout to Patrick Low, whose dedication as Competition Coordinator has helped provide a fantastic competition experience for East Auckland's young players. Thank you for your continued contribution to school table tennis πŸ™Œ

The Term 2 competition concludes on Wednesday 17 June 2026, and we wish all teams the very best for the final rounds.

πŸ“ Entries are now open for the Term 3 competition
πŸ“… Entries close on 29 July 2026

If your school is interested in entering a team, now is the perfect time to get involved and be part of one of Auckland's growing school table tennis competitions.

Well done to all players, schools, teachers, coaches, and supporters who have made Term 2 such a success! πŸ’™πŸ“

We would like to thank Remuera Intermediate School for their support of the Tables in Communities programme and for recently sharing this encouraging feedback following our sessions at the school.

Over the past 2 weeks, it has been fantastic to see students embrace table tennis with such enthusiasm.

From students trying the sport for the first time to those taking part in the school trials, there has been a real buzz around the programme.

The feedback highlighted the positive atmosphere created throughout the sessions, with students building confidence, developing new skills, and supporting one another regardless of their experience level.

We were also pleased to assist with the school's table tennis trials, providing students with an opportunity to challenge themselves and further develop their interest in the sport.

A special thank you to Cameron Olliff, the staff, and all the students at Remuera Intermediate School.

We look forward to returning for our final day and continuing to share the enjoyment of table tennis with the school community.

Thank you also to Sport Auckland and the Tu Manawa fund for helping make programmes like this possible in schools across Auckland.
