The Henderson Valley Basketball Club would like to pay tribute and send our condolences of the passing of Benny Anthony Snr, a true legend and icon in New Zealand basketball. As one of the pioneers who played a significant role in reviving the sport in New Zealand, Benny left an indelible mark on the basketball community. His influence on both Coach Tom Blair and myself was profound, particularly during our time playing alongside him for Waitakere Rangers, and later, through his invaluable guidance and mentorship in our coaching careers. The club also extends its heartfelt condolences to Coach Benny Anthony Jnr, his mother Dorothy, and the Wolfpack Basketball Club β€οΈπŸ’―. May Benny's legacy continue to inspire us all, and may he rest in love. Manuia le Malaga Benny Love and blessings always from Henderson Valley Basketball πŸ€πŸ©·πŸ’š

Talofa and Hello everyone. Thank you to those who emailed or messaged their interest in joining our community basketball club. We are a small, community-focused club dedicated to development. Our membership is strict because we follow a traditional club model rooted in culture, family values, integrity, and loyalty, founded in 1985 by my brothers and me. Our coaching approach is also traditional and challenging, but you can see how it influences players’ approach to the game.

At this moment, we cannot accept new players in the U14S, U17S, and U19S groups, which usually meet on Mondays at Henderson High School. Our VALLEY KIDZ skills programme for U10-12s on Fridays is also full; it’s held at Tuilaepa Youth Mentoring Services -TYMS(TYMS HUB). I will soon contact our current members to confirm who will return in 2026. Additionally, in the coming weeks, I will conduct training sessions for players from our camp to help them prepare for rep teams and school competitions. The incoming VALLEY players will join later on in TERM 2, which we normally have our JUNIOR FIAFIA competitions (u12s), once a month, and u14s, every Tuesdays, an 8-week competition (Term 2-4) and u17s every Thursdays. If you have girls wanting to play, I suggest basketball club

Once I know the numbers, I will review our waiting list before considering new members. Please email me if you would like to learn more about the club and our policies. [email protected]. Faafetai. Pic: Original Pic National Champions Division 3 1987,2000-2002

Viia le Atua! Give thanks to our heavenly Father for this blessing to lead Henderson Valley Basketball Club back home now, and what an awesome time we had with our club β€οΈπŸ’―. A big thank you to my uso and brother Benny Hill and his club Bay Ballers for hosting and allowing us to bring down our players and families to play against some of Benny Hill's talented players in his club and Napier, especially Benny Hill's own sons πŸ€β€οΈ. Win, lose, or draw, it didn't matter; it was all about making new connections πŸ’―πŸ€. We had a great time as we played basketball; u10-u12s did really well, coached by Coach Dan Ryan; u15s had close games and it could've gone either way; our u17s did well, but we have a lot to work on; and our u19s worked well together, seeing it was their first time together in a long time. We had a cool down at the beach ⛱️, then the following day, we had a VALLEY FAMILY DAY at Splash Planet πŸ’¦, which was an amazing day! I think our mothers had more fun than the kids, seeing them out on the Bumper Boats crashing into each other! πŸ˜† lol ❀️. Then, back in time, we had our traditional gathering with the other club at the MARAE. We presented Benny Hill with a meaalofa, along with our new VBZ warm-up top πŸ’šπŸ©·, as a thank you gift 🎁. Then, on Sunday morning, we did our final prayer, which a fine young man, Matthias, shared the word of the day to give thanks always; as a player from u10s to u19s was selected to give lotu/karakia ❀️✝️. We left at 10 am to get to our usual spot in Pokeno for our traditional ice creams and then headed home 🏑. A big thank you to Pukemokimoki Marae for the special powhiri and welcome. To our parents and coaches who are the heart and soul of our club, and to our wonderful kids who were fantastic the whole trip β€οΈπŸ’―πŸ€, HVB believes that these cost-effective tours are more beneficial for our kids, as they get to see our beautiful country πŸ‡³πŸ‡Ώ, visit smaller cities and towns that have basketball teams but teams to play against; our parents are able to come away and support, be a big part of the travelling group; less emphasis on winning but more on effort and playing hard πŸ’―; and lastly, spending time on a Marae teaches our players the importance of culture and where we come from. We will always be a family club with strong ties to values and beliefs; we are AIGA A*O UMA Family forever πŸ’šπŸ©·
