🏁 PRACTICE 2 DONE! 🏁

The weather threw a bit of everything at us on Saturday, but that didn’t stop the riders and drivers getting out on track! 🌦️🔥

A big well done to quarter midget 10A on hitting the track for the first time 👏 Sidecar veteran Glen Bagshaw on 22A had three different swingers on Saturday, two of them having a go for their very first time. That first swing on a sidecar is an unforgettable experience!

We also had three Outlaw Karts out there, plus plenty more bikes and vehicles getting through their pre-season inspections.

And that’s a wrap on our pre-season practices!

🏁 What a day at Rosebank! 📸

A huge thank you to everyone who came along on Saturday to celebrate the opening of our Rosebank Speedway Photo Exhibition as well as everyone who came through for their Pre-season inspection and first practice.

A lot of bikes and vehicles are ready to go!

It was great seeing old friends and members, familiar trackside faces, alongside people discovering Rosebank Speedway for the very first time. There were plenty of stories, memories and conversations sparked by the photos — a great reminder of just how much history lives at this little patch of dirt.

If you missed the opening on Saturday, don’t worry — the exhibition isn’t going anywhere just yet!
The photos will be on display until our opening meeting on 11 October, with opportunities to drop in and have a look over the next few weekends. Come and take a wander through, and see if you can spot a few familiar faces — or maybe yourself. ❤️🏁

📷 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐡𝐞𝐫: John Sprague R.I.P.

John Sprague is a well-known speedway photographer and was a true gentlemen. A well-loved regular at speedway tracks all over Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, he was a businessman, family man, and a hobby speedway photographer appearing at many a meeting at Rosebank Speedway over the years.

We are honoured to display a small selection of his work, with the blessing of his family, at our photo exhibition that celebrates past and present photographers from the Rosebank speedway community.

We hope this display of John’s work keeps his memory, passion, and perspective behind the lens alive and demonstrates the ongoing value of his contribution to motorcycle speedway in Aotearoa NZ.

𝐃𝐢𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐅𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝟏𝟗𝟑𝟒?

🏁 Motorcycle racing began here in the early 1930s on a rough grass track at the tip of the Rosebank Peninsula. The Ixion Motorcycle Club first controlled the track before merging with the Auckland Motorcycle Club in 1935, giving the club a permanent base in Avondale.

Night meetings and weekend events continued through the 1940s and early 1950s, attracting riders from across Auckland until construction of the motorway temporarily closed the site.

This image will feature as part of the Rosebank Speedway: Through the Lens Photo exhibition that opens this Saturday and is kindly on loan to us from the Avondale Waterview Historical Society

Mel got hooked on photography at 17 when she purchased her first film Minolta camera. She’s self-taught and describes herself as a hobby-photographer.
Her first season at Rosebank Speedway was the 2004/2005 season when her boys and husband were racing. Like any photographer, she is looking for that “wow” moment, but loves to capture candid shots of people in the pits at race meetings that tell a story.
“To me, it more about the emotions of the people and capturing memories. Taking photos also helped keep my nerves calm when my husband and sons were racing”.

Mel’s candid images will be on display at our upcoming photo exhibition. Come along, celebrate the people and moments that make Rosebank Speedway special, and see the sport through her lens. We’d love to see you there! 🏁📸

We have three double passes to our first meeting of the season to give away! 🎟️

Our Rosebank Speedway Photo Exhibition opening is fast approaching, and we’ve been busy delivering posters around Auckland. We’ve had an awesome response from businesses happy to support the event, so we want to show some aroha back with a little competition. ❤️

We’re excited to officially announce our new track name for the 2026/27 Speedway Season!

💥HYDRO VISION ROSEBANK SPEEDWAY

Hydro Vision NZ has stepped up as our Premier Naming Rights Sponsor for the upcoming season, and we couldn’t be happier to have them on board.

Hydro Vision are Auckland’s drain unblocking specialists, providing 24/7 rapid-response drainage services across Auckland, including the North Shore, West Auckland, South Auckland and Rodney.

Ngā mihi nui (a big thank you) to Pub Charity Limited for funding our event costs for the upcoming speedway season of 2026/27.

Pub Charity Limited distributes grants to community organisations all over Aotearoa New Zealand through their responsible hospitality partnerships, creating a positive impact in our local communities.

Their most recent funding allows us to provide amenities for our competitors in the pits and for our fans on the hill. Additional funding this year provided new surfacing on the junior infield track.

These are the vital steps that go on behind the scenes and make for smooth racing and an enjoyable experience at Hydrovision Rosebank Speedway.
