๐Ÿค•Tired of reaching for the paracetamol every few days? ๐Ÿค•
Headaches keep coming back because the cause isn't being treated โ€” just the symptom. Whether it's tension headaches, cervicogenic headaches from the neck, or migraines, there's usually something driving them that we can actually fix.
We've just published a blog breaking it all down โ€” including how chiropractic and acupuncture can help, and what you can do at home right now.

Headaches are one of the most common โ€” and most misunderstood โ€” complaints we see in clinic. Whether you're dealing with tension headaches, cervicogenic headaches that start in the neck, or full-blown migraines, there's almost always a treatable cause behind them. The neck plays a bigger role th...

A reminder for parents, coaches, and young athletes.

Recently, Sonny Bill Williams shared that he's preparing for his fourth neck surgery

While most young athletes won't reach the professional ranks, his story highlights something important: sport places real physical demands on the body.

Today, many young athletes are balancing school sport, club sport, representative teams, extra trainings, gym sessions, and competitions. That's a lot of stress on bodies that are still growing, developing, and adapting.

Being young doesn't make someone invincible.

Recovery is not a reward. It's part of the training process.

Young athletes need:
โœ… Quality sleep
โœ… Good programming and appropriate training loads
โœ… Regular rest and recovery days
โœ… Nutrient-dense whole foods
โœ… Strength and conditioning that matches their stage of development
โœ… Support from healthcare professionals when needed, including chiropractors, physiotherapists, osteopaths, sports doctors, and massage therapists

Too often I hear:

They're young, they'll be fine.

Maybe they will.

But recurring injuries, persistent aches, fatigue, burnout, and reduced enjoyment of sport often tell a different story.

As a sports chiropractor, I've been fortunate to work with athletes from school level through to the international stage. One thing remains true at every level: performance improves when recovery is valued.

Let's stop glorifying how much our kids can push through and start focusing on how well they recover.

Our goal shouldn't just be creating better athletes.

It should be creating healthier, more resilient young people who can enjoy sport for life.

Take care of our kids. Their future health is worth it.

What are your thoughts? Are young athletes playing too much, too little, or about right?

"How many acupuncture treatments will I need?"

The answer depends on your goals, symptoms, and how long you've been dealing with the issue.

๐ŸŒฟ Acute problems often respond best to more frequent care initially.
๐ŸŒฟ Chronic conditions may require a longer treatment plan to create lasting change.
๐ŸŒฟ Once symptoms improve, many people choose maintenance treatments to help stay well and prevent flare-ups.

At your first appointment, Annie will take the time to understand your health history, assess your concerns, and create a treatment plan tailored specifically to you.

There is no one-size-fits-all approachโ€”your care is designed around your individual needs and goals.

๐Ÿฆด Daily flossing for your joints.

Most people think of flossing as something you do for your teeth. I think your joints need it too.

Winter has a way of slowing us down. We sit more, move less, and before long our bodies start feeling stiff, tight, and achy.

Simple movements like:
โœ… Squat and rotation combinations
โœ… Bridges
โœ… Spinal flexion, extension and rotation
โœ… Getting up and down from the floor without using your hands

help keep your joints moving through their available ranges and remind your body that movement is medicine.

You don't need an hour-long workout. Just a few minutes of intentional movement each day can help reduce stiffness, improve mobility, and keep you feeling younger and more capable.

Motion is lotion.

Don't let winter turn you into a statue. Get moving. Your spine and joints will thank you.

Struggling with lower back pain that just won't go away?
Rest helps for a day or two. Painkillers take the edge off. But if it keeps coming back โ€” there's usually something more going on beneath the surface.
At AHAP, our registered acupuncturist Annie Yang specialises in sports acupuncture for exactly this kind of stubborn lower back pain. She targets the tight muscles, active trigger points, and overloaded tissue that are keeping you stuck โ€” and works alongside Dr. Kylie to address both the soft tissue and structural side of your pain at the same time.
We've just published a full breakdown on the blog โ€” what's actually happening in your lower back, how acupuncture helps, and what to expect from your first session.

โ„๏ธ Winter Is Here... And So Are The Headaches โ„๏ธ

If you've noticed more headaches, neck tension, stiffness, or fatigue lately, you're not alone.

As the temperatures drop, many of us start moving less. We spend more time sitting, working indoors, scrolling on our phones, and less time getting the movement our bodies need.

The result?

๐Ÿ”ต More tension headaches from tight neck and shoulder muscles.
๐Ÿ”ต More cervicogenic headaches originating from the joints and muscles of the neck.
๐Ÿ”ต Increased migraine triggers from stress, poor sleep, dehydration, and disrupted routines.
๐Ÿ”ต More stiffness throughout the spine and upper back.

The good news is that movement is medicine.

Even a daily walk, a few mobility exercises, regular strength training, or simply getting up from your desk more often can help keep your joints moving, muscles active, and nervous system functioning at its best.

Chiropractic care can also help reduce tension, improve spinal movement, address neck-related headaches, and keep you functioning well throughout the colder months.

Don't let the winter blues, inactivity, and poor posture take control of how you feel.

Keep moving.
Look after your spine.
Take care of your health.

If headaches, neck pain, or stiffness are becoming a regular part of your week, it may be time to get checked.

๐Ÿ‘‡ What tends to flare up for you during winter: headaches, neck pain, back pain, or stiffness?

02/06/2026

โ„๏ธ Winter Is Here โ€“ Keep Moving This June โ„๏ธ

As the temperatures drop, many of us start moving less, sitting more, and feeling the effects in our bodies.

Sound familiar?

โžก๏ธ Tight shoulders
โžก๏ธ Rounded posture
โžก๏ธ Neck tension
โžก๏ธ Headache
โžก๏ธ Upper back stiffness

One simple exercise I often recommend is the IYWL exercise

This movement helps activate the muscles that support good posture, improve shoulder mobility, and strengthen the upper back muscles that often become weak from prolonged sitting.

Think of it as a reset button for your posture.

Try performing 8-12 repetitions of each position (I, Y, W, and L) with slow, controlled movement and focus on squeezing your shoulder blades together.

Small amounts of movement performed consistently can make a huge difference to how your body feels this winter.

Move more. Sit less. Feel better.

If headaches, neck pain, shoulder tension, or poor posture are slowing you down, we're here to help.
