Pacific Dance NZ is putting a callout for dance films to showcase during our Dance Festival this June! Whether you're a Pacific artist or your work features Pacific talent, we want to see your creativity shine on screen!

All dance film content will be considered - from vibrant choreography to powerful storytelling, we welcome it all!

Don't miss this opportunity to share your artistry with our community. Submit your dance films by February 28th for consideration.

With immense pride, we congratulate Tupe Lualua on her well-deserved recognition in the New Year Honours List for 2024, bestowed upon her by King Charles III . Tupe's commitment and contributions to the arts, particularly within our community, have been nothing short of extraordinary.

Tupe Lualua has been an integral part of the fabric of Pacific Dance NZ, embodying the essence of artistic excellence as an artist-in-residence, choreographer, mentor, and visionary creative. Her unwavering dedication to the arts has enriched our cultural tapestry and touched countless lives.

Her invaluable role in fostering artistic expression is evident through her involvement in seminal works showcased at the Pacific Dance NZ annual festival, including 'Shel We' by Tupua Tigafua and 'Shifting Centre' by Oto Lupo and Sefa Tunupopo to name a few. Ms. Lualua's artistic prowess extends across various domains, encompassing dance, choreography, acting, directing, production, and arts education.

Tupe Lualua's dedication to the arts and her massive contributions have earned her a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM) and left an indelible mark on the artistic legacy of our community.

We extend our biggest and proudest congratulations once again to Tupe Lualua for this well-deserved honour, and we look forward to witnessing her continued brilliance and impact on the world stage.

In light of the Auckland Fringe Festival being on a break until 2024, the The Factory Theatre whānau have partnered with Auckland Fringe to present our first Satellite Fringe offering.

FACTORY FRINGE-PASIFIKA 2023

What is it?
With the support of Auckland Fringe and CNZ, Factory Fringe Pasifika 2023 is the opportunity for us to uplift two Pacific creatives or Pacific led creative groups for a season at The Factory in Onehunga.

What can I do?
Just like normal Fringe, development work, any genre or discipline, its up to you! There are few limits. If you whakapapa Pacifika bring it!

How does it work?
It's simple! Just like fringe, we have set up a registration that will ask a few simple questions about your ideas and work. All registrations will then be presented and finalists decided by our awesome support panel. The panel will include representatives from the Pacific creative sector,
Auckland Fringe, CNZ and He Waka Eke Noa Trust.

What do I get?
Congratulations! The finalists will receive the use of a rehearsal space for a full week at Kete Aronui and a week's performance season in The Factory Theatre. Any further information will be provided to the successful proposals.

When is it?
There are two slots:

Week 1:
Rehearse at Kete Aronui: November 13th-19th
Pack in/tech/perform at The Factory Theatre: November 20th-24th

Week 2:
Rehearse at Kete Aronui: November 20th-26th
Pack in/tech/perform at The Factory Theatre: November 27th-December 1st

Happy Independence Day Fiji!

We enjoy that time of the year where we celebrate all our indigenous Pacific languages here in Aotearoa and this week its Macawa ni Vosa Vakaviti – Fijian Language Week 2023.

This year's theme, "Me vakabulabulataki, vakamareqeti, ka vakaqaqacotaki na vosa vakaviti" which translates to "Nurture, Preserve, and Sustain the Fijian language," holds meaning and relevance for our arts community and diaspora.

Mālō e lelei! It's Tongan Language Week 2023, and this year's theme is "E tu'uloa 'a e Lea faka-Tongá 'o ka lea'aki 'i 'api, siasí (lotú), mo e nofo-'a-kāingá," which means the Tongan Language will be sustainable if used at home, church, and in the wider community.

At Pacific Dance NZ, we celebrate the richness of Tongan culture and language.

Today, we want to honour the talented Tongan artists and choreographers who have contributed their creativity and passion to our community.
