It’s easy to forget just how dangerous our sport is.

We jump into the saddle without a second thought, heading out for a hack, schooling in the arena, travelling to lessons, clinics, and competitions, rarely pausing to consider that, each time, there is a chance we might not come home.

We don't dwell on that, we can't. If we did, we’d never ride at all, but weekends like this bring that reality into sharp, heartbreaking focus.

Every time we put a foot in the stirrup or a hand on the reins, we accept a risk, and because of that, we owe it to ourselves to live fully. Not cautiously holding back, not giving 75%, but to jump in with both feet, to dream unrealistically, to make mistakes and bounce back, and to be intentional in all we do.

The talented lives that were lost at the weekend were lost in pursuit of something those riders loved deeply. That doesn’t soften the grief or make it easier for those who knew and loved them, nor for the wider equestrian community. But perhaps, in time, there may be some quiet comfort in knowing they were doing what set their souls alight, under blue skies, looking between a pair of ears.

For now, though, we’re reminded, starkly and painfully, that tomorrow is never guaranteed and that the sport we choose, the sport we love, is not a safe one.

And yet, we ride anyway.

So don't live small. Be brave, be present, say the things that matter, take up space, let your passions lead and make sure every time you put a foot in that stirrup and look between those ears, you remember that life is precious, but it is also fragile, so you live it the best you possibly can.

✨Make Mine a Double✨

Lynx you will always be my little trojan horse proving everyone wrong.
You are going to be missed as you were easy, fun, safe, reliable and the first horse I think of if I want to do a whole range of different disciplines no matter how unhinged, I hope you enjoy your new home and they love you and have as much fun with you just as much as we did, thank you for teaching me a lot

Lynx arrived over the weekend for some winter riding before potentially going to a new home.

Northland HT update and results✨
Much smaller team this year only catching the ride on mums horse after sustaining a dislocated knee cap and sprained ankle a month prior 😅 lucky she’s reliable 🍀
✨ Make Mine a Double✨ - Lynx did a very cute test considering my leg was a tadd weaker then it needed to be for 68.33% and jumped double clear with no time faults moving up to finish 8th overall out of a field of 23 so very happy with that.

Thanks to…
Geraldine Butler for the ride on your ever so reliable horsey and everything else this weekend.

Amarah for your first video attempts, chief “mums phone photographer” and little groom.

Kate Hunter Photography for the xc photos.

And to all the sponsors and organisers who make the event run so well!

“Just love Cruizin”
Cruize is a Tb by headwater (Aus) with 3 easy paces, doesn’t windsuck, in the three years ive owned him he has completed a very well roundedCV for his education , countless lessons, done dressage (with lovely comments), evented to 95cm both odes and HT finishing top 10 most of his shows absolute weapon xc, XC practice days, DSE clinics, showhunter, showjumping, comfortable hacking anywhere and good with kids, dogs and traffic, can do attitude, good to float/truck, stands for the farrier, easy to worm/clip, this boy has a cuddly nature and loves to please, unfortunately letting him go as I prefer to spend time bringing on babies, Cruise is looking and feeling fantastic and is well and truly ready to go be a star.
Being a TB he does require an experienced rider to bring him to his full potential.
12,❤️❤️❤️
