Ref Ethan Hi I am Ethan, NZRU & Touch NZ Ref. I took control of the whistle for my first ever game on the day of my 9th Birthday. Now also umpiring college cricket games.

587 days ago I announced that I was hanging up the whistle in touch. In that time I have missed reffing soo much. Unfortunately in that time I have found out that I am missing both of my grooves under my patella which effects me on how I run. (I will need knee surgery to fix both of them. I’ve been watching masters/opens over the last week and realised that I missed that stuff so much! Today is March 6th 2023! I’m announcing that I will be back for the 23/24 season of Touch! I can’t wait to be back out on the field with my amazing Touch New Zealand Whanau. This off season I will be hitting the gym and working on my cardio. I Will be back better than ever!

Sometimes you need a change in direction and have to do what’s best for only you.
This coming season I will not be ref’ing Touch after having ref’ed for the past 5 seasons.
This is not a decision made lightly, and I truely love all my Touch NZ whanau and appreciate all their support over the years.
I need time to refocus, and explore other options without the pressures of Ref’ing.
I am continuing to AR Rugby games.
