Epic week with an epic team! at the
We had a hugely successful week in what is New Zealand’s toughest stage race.
We won a stage, wore the leaders jersey, wore the King of the mountains, 3rd on bluff, a top 10 overall and 2nd U23 as well as many top 10’s.on stages.
We also finished with all 6 riders. Which is no mean feat!

Back in 2022 Bill Blackmore thought it would be cool to run a team in the UCI Gravel and Tar one day race, and provide an opportunity for first year U23 riders. Through a series of unfortunate events we never actually ran a team at G&T. However has competed in 2x tour of Southland’s, 2x NZ Cycle Classics and supported riders at Elite Nationals.
Bill is a massive supporter of Junior cycling in NZ with the Auckland Ibuilt Junior Tour as well. Always enjoy spending a week with him in the team van!
Together we have been able to provide a cool team for some seriously talented young riders!

I personally had a wicked week supporting a great bunch of guys. I can relate to the trials and challenges of what is a brutal race. I feel privileged to be a part of their success and their learning.

A big shout out to a great leader on and off the bike! He added so much to the team!
The unsung hero’s of the team who couldn’t make it to the race, but ran social media from Aussie. for all the cooking and general hard work over the week!
We also had Toms dad on carbon repair after some big crashes!

Been working with Bill Blackmore from Ibuilt to get some teams into the elite summer races with a bunch of good young riders. We kicked off with the NZ Cycle Classic earlier this week, which finishes on Sunday. Wasn’t able to make the race myself so Grit coached rider stepped in as team DS for the boys! He’s been doing a great job.
A lot of fun following their progress!
Looking forward to joining the boys at the upcoming Gravel and Tar and Elite Nationals!

The New Zealand junior men’s cycling team has made a strong start to the Tour de l’Abitibi in Quebec today.

The annual Tour is one of nine races around the world sanctioned by the UCI for national under-19 road teams for the Junior Nations Cup, and staged in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region of Quebec.

It is currently the only junior-level race in North America sponsored by the UCI.

The six-strong New Zealand team worked hard to get riders into the key 13-strong break in the opening 132km stage from Rouyn-Noranda to Amos, opening a one-minute advantage.

With the host nation not strongly represented, the pace went on to close the gap with eight riders ultimately staying clear to fight out the sprint finish.

With French riders claiming the first two placings, it was left to Central Hawkes Bay rider Toby Evans to sprint home in sixth place to record the same time as the winner.

All the rest of the New Zealand team comprising Kallum Mardon (Hamilton), Max Preece (Auckland), Elliot Robertson (Wellington), Jack Gillingham (Tauranga) and Cameron Beaumont (Nelson) finished in the peloton that closed to within 22 seconds from the winner.

Tomorrow’s second stage is 117km from Val-d’Or to Amos including a number of laps around the town circuit to finish.

Logan has been lucky enough to be a part of the Core Knowledge programme since 2021. This is a great initiative put together by High Performance Sport NZ. It's a fantastic opportunity for coaches from a range of sports to come together to learn and share knowledge and ideas.
Excellent to see Craig Palmer take the lead on this going forward!

What a legend! Joel Douglas took the Oceania U19 Omnium championship last night wearing the New Zealand National jersey. So incredibly proud of what Joel has achieved!

I love to use Joel's story to inspire younger riders, especially because none of this has come easy to Joel. When they ask what his secret is, I reply... A lot of passion, years of patient progression. Knowing when to push and when to rest. He learns quickly from mistakes. He is much less susceptible to worrying about what others are doing. He also has two amazingly supportive parents that make all of this possible!

Wicked to see MVP upload his ride data from the 270km Ronde Van Vannderan! Power data like this is usually kept hidden away.
Eye watering numbers from the champ as you would expect.
6,753kj expended during the ride and still able to pump out nearly 19wkg in the final sprint! 🤯🤯
