Aikido Shinryukan Aikikai Foundation representative for New Zealand Shihan Nobuo Takase 8th Dan established Aikido Shinryukan to promote Aikido throughout NZ.

Learning center's can be found countrywide and abroad by going to www.AikidoNewZealand.com Aikido Shinryukan, acting in its capacity as the Headquarters for the New Zealand Aikikai Federation, each year organises the Annual National Gasshuku [national seminar] with visiting Shihan from the World Aikido Headquarters and in doing so provides a strong centre for the development of Aikido in New Zealand. Aikido Shinryukan is committed to the promotion of the art of Aikido. It promotes excellence in Aikido instruction and training in New Zealand. Shinryukan is further committed to strengthening ties with the Aikido World Headquarters. Takase Shihan is also the New Zealand representative of the World Aikido Headquarters Tokyo Japan. Born 6 February 1947 in Himeji, Japan, Takase Shihan began studying Aikido at Kogakkan University in Ise, Japan. His early teachers were Chiba, Kanai, Ichihashi and Watanabe Shihan and O-Sensei the founder of Aikido - and other senior World Aikido Headquarters Shihan in Japan. In 1969, at the age of 22, Takase Shihan emigrated to New Zealand with the intention of introducing the art of Aikido across the country.

Members of Shinryukan Hombu dojo had a busy Sunday! Some went for a walk in the woods while others were cutting wood to make a start on our new dojo floor.

A big thank you to Neil, Gordy the builder, Shane and Dane for your hard work building the foundations of our future home.

And thanks to Jeff, Danielle, Ken, Claire and Tara for braving the weather and bringing energy and spirit (and kūmara) to the group.

There will be more opportunities to join the dojo build and future social events, so make sure you keep an eye on the WhatsApp group.

Great weekend on the mats! Shinryukan Hombu's Danielle van Strien and Tara Hobbs headed along to a seminar led by Elaine Yoder Sensei (7th Dan, President of the California Aikido Association), who brings an incredible 50 years of training to the mat.

Hosted by Kyu Shin Do Dojo in Northcote and arranged by Aikido Oamaru, it was a fantastic opportunity to train under a senior instructor from overseas. Danielle and Tara had a great time, picked up some valuable lessons, and met some lovely people along the way.

Thanks to everyone involved in putting on such a great event!

Our aikidoka had an incredible time on the mat during today's Women's Workshop! Sessions were thought-provoking, energetic and reminded us to keep 'pulling toffee'. Thank you to Claudia Hill and Danielle van Strien for your instruction, and to those from other clubs who made the effort to attend. The atmosphere in the dojo was magic. See you all next time!
