The Waiheke Marine Project Annual Report 2025 shares some of the key impacts in numbers and connections from the project year 1 October 2024 – 30 September 2025. This slide highlights the Marine Monitoring data for 2025.

Looking ahead: The project plans to continue supporting surveillance and communication efforts into 2026 so that removal programmes will have improved information. Retrieving the PAR sensor data is expected to help with the understanding of any changes in behaviour such as the reduction or increase in biomass or incursions in new areas.

Waiheke Marine Project invites the community to help celebrate the start of the 6th annual Kōura Dive Survey at Waiheke Island. Join us on Saturday 6th June at Waiheke Marina carpark, Kennedy Point for the Mihi Whakatau – Welcoming ceremony & karakia. A light hand-held breakfast supplied by our friends at ‘The Island Grocer’.

Please find the team near the entrance in time for an 8am start. We will join the Dive volunteers, Skippers and crews, hear their briefing and wish them safe surveying as they depart on the first of 4 weekends of mahi. If you are on the water yourself over the weekend please be extra vigilant for Divers, Free Divers and Dive Flags by keeping at least 200 metres clear.

Kia Ora whanau, this kaupapa right here is something I have been waiting for, ever since I found out about it last year November. I made it on the list of divers for this season and man I'm sooo excited and grateful to be apart of this kaupapa. The beautiful moana, marine life, coral reefs, coastal environments over in Waiheke Island. I have never been to Waiheke before and for this to be my very first experience on the island it's just an amazing feeling. This will definitely help me with my fish ID skills, also meet new people in the scuba diving community, it will help me grow individually as a diver, A Kaitiaki and Kōura survey partner , it will help me with my small business. I see great potential here for myself and man I'm just ready to go asap hahaha but also nervous👌😁 the nerves will go away as it gets closer to the time 💯👌

Saturday, 16th May, a group of volunteer regen divers will be in the water at Enclosure Bay from 9 am for a training session to familiarise ourselves with what is expected for this year's Koura Dive Survey happening every weekend in June.

A friendly reminder to boaties and water users: please keep an eye out for blue-and-white diving flags and/or orange floats indicating divers/snorkelers in the water, and take extra care when moving through and around the bay.

When earning your Open Water Diver Certification you will need to first complete your 2 Pool Days (Confined Water Dives).

After completing that you'll be able to move onto your Open Water Dives (Ocean Dives) which also takes a total of 2 days.

My name is Corey Makoare-Slade I’m passionate about Tangaroa, free diving and Scuba Diving. Teaching the safety around Tangaroa and the connection we have with Tangaroa through Tikanga Maori.
