🪖 **NZDF Beep Test – It’s Not Just About Running!**
To join the NZDF, you need to pass the **beep test / shuttle run**.
For many people, the difficult part isn't simply running — it's the **turning technique**.
Watch the four sections of this video carefully 👇
🔹 **Section 1 – Leading Foot**
The leading foot (the foot that goes over/on the line) ends up on the wrong side of the pivot foot — the foot that remains on the floor during the turn.
This means each run starts by kicking off in the wrong direction, creating **extra distance on every shuttle**.
🔹 **Section 2 – Pivot Foot**
The foot that touches down before the line should become the pivot foot. Instead, there is a crossover of both legs, causing the second step to become the pivot.
This is another **technique error that costs time and energy**.
🔹 **Section 3 – Corrected Turn**
The turning technique has now been corrected, but the pivot foot twists and is then stepped back over the line before starting the next run.
That extra movement **wastes valuable time**.
🔹 **Section 4 – Training Technique**
The final section shows a technique I use to help develop the **body movement, rotation and power** needed for a better turn.
⚠️ **Important:** This is **NOT the technique you should use during the actual NZDF beep test**. It is a training drill to help develop the movement required for the turn.
When you're trying to pass the beep test, **small technique errors can add up very quickly**.
🏃♂️ It's not always about running harder — sometimes it's about **running smarter**.
If you're preparing for the **NZ Army, Navy or Air Force**, Fitness Trainers can help you work on your running, turning technique, strength and fitness.
