The lightweight alternative to carbon fibre? Back in 2004, we had some of the World’s fastest cross-country racers campaigning on a very special bike – the MAGNESIUM MARATHON. As the name suggests, the frame was made of lightweight magnesium alloy, which at the time rivalled carbon fibre for low weight. This particular example was raced to gold by in the 2004 Olympics, which is why it’s earned a place in the MERIDA Factory museum in Taiwan. The World's lightest production road bike? Back in 2015, this 1-of-100 SCULTURA 9000 LTD had a strong claim to that title at just 4.5kg for the complete bike - and if you're lucky enough to visit MERIDA HQ in Taiwan, you can see it in the flesh, along with other important bikes from our history. In one of their recent test, the team took a closer look at our fully equipped and -powered eFLOAT CC 400 EQ and walked away stating that "it’s a cracking bike as-is, and I really enjoyed taking the bike on adventurous as well as local rides". The eFLOAT CC is the most off-road capable member of the eFLOAT family, and it certainly encouraged the test team to put both themselves and the bike to the test. "I took the eFloat over some pretty challenging terrain, including rocky, rooty and steep singletrack paths, which occasionally defeat me on a full-suspension bike costing twice as much. Suffice to say it’s the rider, not the bike, that will hold you back from exploring with the eFloat", was one of their key conclusions regarding the riding performance of our SUV e-bike delivers on even more demanding terrain.
